@am2727 I think they will send out more next week. My daughter got into Fordham a few years ago, and her friend got her acceptance exactly a week after my daughter did. There seemed to be an “every week” pattern to it for three weeks that year.
These likely letters and receptions are so new to me! Is this an East Coast thing? It seems like these would be for students that they REALLY want to attend…maybe they are trying to sway them without Merit Aid or because aid packages don’t come out for a while? Or do they maybe present scholarships at the receptions?
Just curious! I don’t think my DS will be getting a likely letter and we aren’t looking for one. I can’t imagine there is a reception in our area, but also he’s not going to be on the top of the accepted list, stats wise.
My daughter got the email as well, I guess it’s an East Coast thing. Since the reception is in the middle of the week (for Boston area), it will be difficult for people far away from Boston to attend this event. We live relatively close to Boston. I believe it will be the case for other state as well. She applied EA. Fordham is close to her safety school.
If you check the Fordham website, the only two Presidential receptions before the end of the year are in Hartford and Boston. Therefore, unless you are close to one of those two areas, you are not going to get the early acceptance letter. Fordham wants accepted students to go to these Presidential receptions because the President, Father McShane is a great speaker and really makes the accepted students feel wanted by Fordham. My D and I went to one two years ago in SoCal, and it was very moving. It was in January, so she did not receive a likely letter, but did receive the invitation to the Presidential reception after her EA acceptance.
The reason why I’m so nervous is that I live very close to Hartford and have not received one. Fingers crossed!!
We are about 50 minutes out of Boston so maybe they don’t consider us “close”. I would however want my DS to attend the Boston reception if he’s going to be accepted, because it is the only school on his list that he hasn’t visited. We visited twice with DD and although she ended up going elsewhere (Fordham gave her absolutely no money as opposed to free tuition merit offers elsewhere) I was impressed when we visited.
In NJ and have not received anything yet.
Do international students receive early acceptance emails too? Or only domestic students? I’m getting so anxious!!
@scorekeeper1 Ditto here. We are from SoCal and attended a Presidential Reception in So Cal last January after my S was admitted. Father McShane was an outstanding speaker (it hurt my heart a little when my S decided to enroll elsewhere) and the reception itself was very, very nice.
All of that is to say: don’t worry if you don’t receive a likely letter. My S was admitted EA in mid-December and received a substantial merit award sometime in January (which reduced tuition by about 1/3), having never received a “likely letter.”
Any chance that EA decisions will be out this week?
@St678557 im thinking friday??
Yeah my guess would be Friday too
wait what are the invites to those receptions for? Merit? Is it possible to still get merit if you didn’t get an early acceptance. I’m from MA and I havent received an email for Boston while i saw someone else did
ajl2019s Don’t read to much on those likely letters or invites to local receptions. They are usually for students they believe may go elsewhere if not notified early.
Many qualified applicant’s do get admitted with substantial Merit awards during EA and regular decision. My daughter was admitted regular decision with a full tuition award. Our first visit was after her admission. Fordham was on her list but not one of her top three. She did choose Fordham and it has been her best decision.
Does anyone have an estimate of how many applicants got likely letters from MA? I got one and the reception says you can only bring 2 additional people, guessing they wanna keep it small, but wondering how many other students will be there.
@ofay2401, my daughter and I went to the reception in SoCal a couple years ago. It was primarily an alumni event with the President of the University giving a talk. They acknowledged and honored the admitted students and definitely were trying to convince them to come to Fordham. There were probably 100 people there, but about 20 students who had been admitted EA or ED. The 2 additional people is for you to bring parent(s).
I applied ed a few months ago… did anyone else apply ed and knows when we will find out?
My best friend received a likely letter saying that she was accepted early to the early action. She also attended the Presidential Reception last night and we’re from CT.
@thewackisback, we were there last night. It was a great event.
im from Maryland and don’t think I’ve gotten anything
