Fordham Chances

Thanks in advance for the help.

SAT I: 1420 (CR + Math)
SAT II U.S. History: 780
SAT II Spanish w/ Listening: 780
GPA: 3.10 (Steadily gone up every year since 9th grade)
Schedule senior year: 3 AP's, 2 Honors, 1 on level.
Ethnicity: Hispanic father, British mother, born in England, lived in Delaware since I was 1 year old.
Extracurriculars: 360+ hours of community service, Cross Country (2 years), Track (3 years), Spanish Honors Society.

-No excuses for the GPA, I have almost all A's junior and senior year but freshman/sophomore were terrible. Any way I can exlpain this?
-Visited Fordham 3 times.
-Will request interview.
-5 on AP US History exam.
-Not applying for financial aid.
-Applying regular decision. I'm assuming Fordham sees my 1st semester senior year grades if I apply regular.
-Applying for Rose Hill.
-Switched schools mid junior year.
-Male.

Hey guys, any help would be awesome I was wondering what you think I should do to help my chances with getting into Fordham as it is my #1 and I am hoping to get in. By the way, do you think an interview would be beneficial?

One extra question, does Fordham only look at Critical Reading + Math or is Writing important to them as well? I ask this because as I prepare to retake the SAT I am wondering if I should work to up my current 650 Writing grade or should I just focus on getting 730 ish Math and Reading. Thanks again.

I don't know what Fordham is now examining in terms of SAT. You may want to ask them. I think you have a good chance getting in there, especially if your GC helps you out by mentioning your upward trend and maybe calling the Fordham admissions office and making sure they note this.

i think you will get in and your steady improvement counts alot. You should apply early decision.

The GPA is the weak spot here, but if you and your GC can emphasize that upward trend strongly enough, then things should get better. You said that you switched schools in junior year. Did the older school's environment contribute negatively to your grades the first two years. If it truly did, then you should include that as well.

Other things:
- Your SAT score already puts you above the 25%-75% range of Fordham. So no worries there. If you want, try the ACT. Many students find the ACT more their cup of tea and wind up with even more impressive scores. Who knows, it might boost your app even more.
- Inquire about the choice no-fee app from Fordham. Save some money.
- Make sure you find a way to say in your app that you visited Fordham 3 times. I don't know how important that is to them, but if I was an adcom, that really SHOWS interest, and I would like accepting kids who REALLY want to go there.
- if it isn't too late, go for some leadership positions.
- Talk to your GC, and find out if applying EA might be to your advantage. Yes, applying regular would have your GPA higher on record, but by how much. And even then, Fordham still asks for your midyear report, so they'll see all your recent grades anyway. Just maybe, applying EA and not having to contend with the larger regular pool, might be advantageous. Consult your GC.

I hope you get in :) It's a really good school. Good luck collegehelllp.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I've talked to my counselor and he said that if I'm able to get mostly all A's with my rigorous course load this year it will probably go to show Fordham, and other schools, that I am on the right track with my grades even moreso than I already have.

I think that I'm somewhat set with my SAT II's, but I would like to, if possible, raise my CR + Math sections in the SAT Reasoning Test. I would be interested to find out if anyone knows whether or not Fordham looks at the writing section; I ask this because I pulled a 1420 CR + Math, but my Writing is only at 650. I don't want to waste time studying for the writing section if Fordham isn't going to take it into heavy consideration.

Any other help would be awesome, thanks again.

Any other input?
