My3Daughters: Thank you! (: Boston University is actually my first choice, but Fordham is a close second!

BU and Fordham are different on many levels. Both excellent schools, but a different experience and vibe.

Make a list of your preferences and interests and consider that Fordham is Jesuit and in New York. Then decide.

Good luck.

When the majority of decisions are released on Dec 15 how will we be notified? Email or regular mail?

regular mail

@sovereigndebt Because they’re so different, it’s hard to decide which one I’d rather choose in the end. So far I’ve only visited BU, but I’m definitely going to visit Fordham in February! Since they both offer the things that I look for in a college, it’ll probably come down to which campus I like more, and how I’m expected to pay for my education as well.

grzyba:

Its a very subjective and personal decision, that I fully understand. It was for us (my kid) as well.

The beauty of Fordham is that its a small school (5,000 at Rose Hill), with a classic gothic campus, full athletics, lots of dorm variety, and yet in New York City. BU is very urban and very large. Fine school.

I hope your visit goes well. Fordham also does an accepted student weekend in April when the weather is nicer and campus may be in full bloom. All before the May 1 deadline to notify schools if you are coming or going elsewhere.

Cost is a factor for most families, so I understand that as well.

Congrats and good luck.

So for the NM scholarship, we do not have to make finalist or designate Fordham as our top choice with the NMSC?

Congrats to all accepted. About a year ago I received my LC acceptance letter, it was nice :3

Ceroxylon, Can you tell me about the “aura” of the student body at Lincoln Center? My daughter is “artsy” but not majoring in the arts. She writes poetry, is a vegan, is liberal politically, dresses in vintage Goodwill clothes – are there a good number of students like that at Lincoln Center? She’s a hard worker, pretty sheltered growing up, can come off as prim and proper, but has this unconventional leaning. One tour guide we met at LC last year was exactly the kind of person she would admire; we went on another tour and the girl was much more conventional, suburban seeming, like our upper middle class suburb is filled with. What is the prevailing atmosphere, would you say?

Hm. That’s a good question. Even though LC is small, there are plenty of different people. Tons of vegan, artsy people though. After all LC is a liberal arts school in one of the most liberal/artsy places in the world! LC is definitely politically liberal, no problems with that. I personally also had a prim and proper upbringing and had no issues.

However, there are also a lot of wealthy kids from NYC suburbs/NJ or Long Island like you described. But honestly, I can’t tell them apart from the rest. I thought there’d be an “aura” of spoiled privileged private school kids, but it has not been the case. They’re all nice. The prevailing atmosphere is just what you mentioned-- liberal, artsy, but mostly proper. Not everyone wears Goodwill clothes, but not everyone wears designer clothes either. She’ll fit right in.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback, Ceroxylon!
