Congrats! Still waiting over here :P

decisions are for dec. 15th but does that mean before the 15th or starting on the 15th by mail. i’m already accepted but waiting to hear about scholarships and i think we find out about them in december.

Is snail mail BIG or small envelope? Thx

Yes, bflo17, my daughter also received an acceptance with no mention of the campus or program to which she applied, but it did include the FAFSA referral.

It’s funny and exciting to read about all of these acceptances.
Just two years ago, there were no early letters or emails, as far as I know. Everyone had to wait for the envelope to come in the mail in Dec… Then everyone ran on this board to say if they had gotten in.

I think generally the snail mail follows the big envelope rule. If its big you are in, and it includes information about financial aid etc. At least that is how we learned of acceptance (RD in 07). But we also had a likely “letter” sent by email beforehand.

Oddly Fordham was our D’s third choice. It came down in the end to two schools, Fordham and another school outside the region. It came down to the wire…as in last hour on last day. Gut wrenching decision. Complicated issues involving deep high school friends pressuring her to come with them to Brand X. (not Xavier in case you are wondering).

What sealed the deal? The April admitted students weekend, despite the horrific weather, was well done, professional, the campus (Rose Hill) and Fr. McShane’s excellent closing statement, followed by his deeply personal and supportive comments in person at the reception following.

College admissions are quirky and often times appear to be unjust. The silver lining is that its a rather rude awakening to real life, adulthood: that we dont always get what we want or when we want it; that we must learn to accept defeat as a learning experience; that the best revenge is unbelievable success (and yes my D has learned that in spades…having been waitlisted at her dream school and was VERY bitter about it).

For those admitted this round, congrats! I hope you select Fordham to attend and not just put it in the pile of acceptance letters. For those deferred to the RD round, don’t lose hope. You likely know why. Fix it if you can. Move forward and upwards. And apply like a madman(woman) by January 15 to other schools where you are a CLEAR MATCH. (i.e. in the 50th percentile or better of admitted students stats.) If you were outright rejected, wipe your tears, God’s speed and move forward. Life is hard, learn from this and know there is a perfect school for you out there, just waiting for your application, where you will thrive and succeed!

Merry Christmas everyone. Good luck to all.

Mine came via snail mail, and it was a very small flimsy envelope. I thought it was a denial!

I applied to Fordham on a whim and a fee waiver. I need to visit, though I am concerned because since it’s a Jesuit school, some of its policies are VERY opposite of my other schools I applied to. Fordham doesn’t allow the opposite sex to stay overnight, Hampshire has gender-neutral bathrooms. I also don’t like that they are consistently the only NYC school to not support The Vagina Monologues and V-Day, no birth control, etc. I consider those very important issues; I’ll have to see how I like the campus and such. I plan to go to the Admitted Students Day in February.

awkwardcreation, you sound very much like my daughter! She also applied to Hampshire. Are you planning on the Lincoln Center campus, which is the more artsy and liberal of the two? Father McShane’s eloquent, passionate reaction to Ann Coulter’s planned appearance at the school (invited by the Republican Club and later cancelled) convinced me that the Jesuit philosphy is all about what Catholicism is supposed to be about: acceptance, championing the underdog, service to the under served, rejecting of hate and callousness. When we toured Lincoln Center, the guide had flaming dyed hair, funky tights, very bohemian. Lots of gay students, I’m told. My daughter oriingally wanted to go to the New School, but if I’m going to pay that kind of tuition, it’s going to be for a more rigorous, recognized education!

That’s great! I definitely will have to visit and feel out the campus; I did apply to LC! Where else did your daughter apply? I’ve applied to Clark U, Hampshire C, Bard, Geneseo, Binghamton, New Paltz, Pace, and I will be applying to Sarah Lawrence and likely Smith College.

She also applied to Sarah Lawrence and New Paltz! Also SUNY Purchase (you should check that out – very artsty and liberal, but my daughter wants to be in the city). Eugene Lang College (The New School); Drew University (NJ); and Hunter (CUNY). But Fordham is her top choice. I think you two would get along! :)

Very cool! I did check it out, I preferred New Paltz though. Where are you from?

awkwardcreation, although Fordham won’t support the V. Monologues, it does get put on every year. Last year, Father McShane attended.

Yes, I had heard V. Monologues was put on at Fordham – but they don’t pay for it? Anyway, akwardcreation, we are from NJ. Fordham is close enough to home, yet a world away in lifestyle and ambience, so it really seems to be the perfect choice for my daughter. Except for price, that is!

If you didn’t get an email does it mean you most likely didn’t get accepted? I haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet. Fordham is one of my top schools and this makes me concerned. Everyone seems to be getting email notifications.

Maine, very few emails went out so buckle in and try to relax. You dont need to be concerned at this point.

Good to know dowzerw! Most are sent for December 15th correct?

My notes said late Dec but on their Admissions page, it reads Dec 15 so it is getting close. Hang in there!

PS Where in Maine? We are Portland area/Scarborough/Rockland folks!

I’m confused by the Admissions page, does it mean that they will be mailing all decisions by Dec 15 or that they will be received by Dec. 15?

and if we already got that little email notification and fafsa letter then we still get a big packet the 15th right?

Yes. The packet is the official hard copy legal notice and includes the forms you must fill out to inform them if you accept or decline their offer. You have until May 1 for a FINAL FINAL notice to them.

They always mail out admission notices and letters in batches because of the volume. Likely over 10,000 applications this round. All notices will be mailed no later than December 15 and most will hear later this week or early next week.

There will be admitted, deferments and rejections. Good luck to all.
