Does a likely letter guarantee that you got accepted? Is there a possibility that they could still not accept you even if you got a likely letter? also does fordham give out a lot of financial aid/scholarships that are more merit based and not so much based on how much your parents make?
@ParksAndWrecked it basically guarantees that you’ll be accepted. It means that you are on the high end of the applicant pool and will probably get in. They give out plenty of scholarships that are not financially based. For example, I got a nice scholarship all based on merit, and I’m paying only about half of regular tuition. Most people here get them, even if it is a small amount.
I just got an email saying I they wanted to let me know ahead of time that I was accepted, is this a likely letter? They said they’ll send an official acceptance letter on December 20. I was hoping they would offer me some kind of scholarship (SAT: 2260, ACT:32, SAT2: M2-710 USH-750, top 5% of class, lots of leadership roles and ECs, great recommendations) but the email I just got didn’t say anything about that. It just talked about applying for financial aid, is there a chance they send merit scholarship offers in the official letter?
@layla2016 Yes you received a likely letter! Congrats! I recieved mine a few minutes ago. It seems like any scholarship info will be included in the official acceptance letter. We’ll get notified about a FA award Feburary 1st.
Ok thank you! And congrats to you too! Maybe I’ll be seeing you there next fall! Good luck with any other applications @angstyaristotle
@layla2016 yeah! maybe the bronx will be our home for four years! best of luck to you too!
Just received my likely letter (Lincoln Center)! Just a question, do you need to fill out the CSS profile to be considered for merit based scholarships even if you don’t plan to apply for financial aid? My family definitely doesn’t qualify for need-based aid, but I’m hoping to get some merit aid from Fordham. Should I still fill out and submit the CSS?
Also, here’s some stats if anyone is curious:
ACT: 35 (E 36, M 35, R 35, S 33, W 10)
GPA: 3.6/4.0
SAT2: M2 720, Chem 700, Lit 700
Race: White and Native American
Gender: Female
ECs: highly involved with music/arts at my school (president of choir leadership council and 4 year member w/ other leadership positions, member of most competitive choir and chamber ensemble, participated in 7 school musicals, community musical theater member), highly involved with my city’s TEDx organization (gave a talk on how technology/social media impacts our society last year, now a member of the organizing committee), worked a lot with a special needs elementary school student last year, participated in an engineering summer program at Columbia University, taught english at a school in the Dominican Republic for a few weeks per year since 2009, member of foreign exchange club
Awards: 3rd Place in school science fair (large school, very competitive), 2nd place in my category for school science fair, State solo and ensemble (vocal music), state honors choir
Recommendations: AP Lit teacher: haven’t seen it, but he really likes me and is known for writing really good letters, so probably 8/10, AP Chem teacher: 9/10, she was really detailed and it was a strong rec, Choir director: 10/10, he loves me and has known me for all of high school, very personal letter, Counselor: 8/10, haven’t seen it but definitely a decent letter because I know her fairly well but also possibly a bit rushed because she has appx. 200 students (about 50 seniors)
Essays: common app essay was really good, I talked about how I’ve grown through music and how it parallels my studies in science and engineering, and how many of the skills overlap
Hooks: Female interested in computer science and engineering, sort of URM? (native american background)
@michigangirl2016 i was wondering the same thing about merit scholarships! because i did not apply for financial aid, as i know my family does not qualify for it… yet i’m hoping for merit scholarships. hopefully someone can answer our questions!
I just got my likely letter! I applied EA to the Lincoln Center campus! They’re my first choice school, so I’m hoping for acceptance to the Honors College and enough of a scholarship to override my full ride to a state school.
You don’t need to fill out the CSS. However, I highly suggest you do. Just because you don’t think you qualify for FA, doesn’t mean you won’t get any. Also, keep in mind, merit aid is not guaranteed, so don’t gamble on it. A lot of people do this and then come back here complaining when they get their FA package because they didn’t get the merit aid they thought they were going to get.
Also, not to lecture, but this is definitely something that needs to be discussed with your parents if you did not, since I’m assuming they’re paying for school. I hope this helps.
@physicsfan7 I think to be considered for any scholarships you need to submit the CSS profile by December 4th. You might want to email them to check, but I think it’s better safe than sorry
@Reader13 and @curiositysquared thanks for the advice!!! i’ll get in contact with fordham admissions just to be safe. and @Reader13 my parents were the ones who told me not to apply for it because of my family’s income
Has anyone who applied ED received a likely letter or email today? Or just EA?
EA here
No likely letter…and I was actually feeling quite good about getting in
@physicsfan7 Okay, cool. I wasn’t sure because i know sometimes students like to fill out everything on their own, including financial aid. Filling out the CSS wouldn’t hurt.
Son received likely letter email last night- he is EA for Lincoln Center. Email said you will be offered admission on Dec 20. Does anyone know if this means you are in running for the Honors Program there?
Hey,
I applied ED, did you?
Congrats for those received a likely letter. I applied EA also got one.
I applied EA, and I did not get any likely letter… The last email I got was on 11/16/15… I thought I had a pretty solid chance of getting into Fordham… Could it be because I did not fill out the CSS? I did fill out FAFSA.
However, I never went on an OFFICIAL college tour. I did visit the campus. Should I email the admission’s counselor and let him/her know?
