Received award letter via e-mail today. What a doozie. Award in relation to direct net cost is nauseating.
$15k in scholarships here. Still a big net cost!
@Marslander indeed, with a nearly $80K pricetag, $15K is not that helpful. I have twins, and the net cost for us is ridiculous.
One received 15,500 the other 30,700. Net cost nearly $100K.
@otherhood2020 Ouch! That is unbelievable. Where else are they looking and have any of them come up with better offers?
Ludicrous !!!
and I am the parent of a Fordham graduate
They’ve applied to other Jesuit school and a couple of in-state schools. They’ve gotten nice merit from Loyola Maryland and Fairfield.
Fordham was their top choice. We visited over the summer and they fell in love. We were prepared for the worst, reading through the Fordham forum for class of 2023, still a total bummer though.
22k in scholarships, Still too much for our budget. We figured as much, glad she was accepted but probably going to have to pass.
35k in scholarships! Whew hoo! I mean, 40k a year is still very expensive, but certainly better than all my other offers. Almost as low as my state school! Wow.
Did you all apply early action? My daughter applied regular action and heard nothing.
We received information yesterday (Jan 17 2020)- my daughter’s financial aid (from her “My Fordham” financial aid portal) lists two scholarships totaling $14K annually (and renewable annually if certain criteria are met).
There is also an “Your Award Information” section with a line item for $20K-- but there are no notes as to whether this is just for the freshman year, or if it is renewable like the scholarships.
Does anyone know the difference between the “Your Award” and “Grants and Scholarships?”
There is probably a student loan component that fills the gap between Grants and Scholarships and the total “Your Award.”
On ours, the “Your Award” amount includes the scholarships under “Grants and Scholarships” PLUS the $5,500 loan listed in the last section “Loans”— maybe that is what you are seeing?
I read the portal the same way as @marslander. “Your Award Info” is the total of Grants and Scholarships plus Loans. In our case, $14K/year total award of which $5.5K is an unsub loan. We got peanuts.
Yes, that appear to be the case, grants/scholarship + unsub loan= total award.
It’s too bad Fordham is so expensive. My daughter received $18,500, but that is really a drop in the bucket when you see how costly the university is.
