Fordham Financial Aid

Hi,

I recently got a letter from Fordham regarding financial aid and I have a few questions to anyone who could answer them.

It lists three things:

Fordham Metro Grant (I would be a commuter)
Fordham Tuition Award
Federal Direct Unsub Loan Eligibility

It says "this is a package including funds form different sources" also that I must file with FAFSA annually

I don't know what this means, does it mean I can apply for these grants and might not get them, or I definitely have them and just need to file with FAFSA and TAP?

Need-based financial aid awards require annual evaluation of need. If your financial circumstances change, the aid can change, so nothing need-based is guaranteed. For any question about financial aid, it’s better to ask the financial aid folks, though.

Fordham requires everyone getting aid, even non-need based aid to file a FAFSA (although nobody is exactly sure why). You can call and confirm with Fordham but I’m guessing that you will get that aid as long as you file the FAFSA. Although filing the FAFSA is a pain if you wouldn’t have to do it otherwise, it is worth it for the money you can save in grants/tuition awards. Congratulations.

Go to the Fordham fin aid website. It has links to all the necessary sites like fafsa, tap, etc

This is very important to do asap, like two months ago asap.

They may also need copies of parents tax returns and yours if you filed. As a freshman there is alos I think another form.

Go to Fordham.edu/fin aid and get started asap. The fed loan requires a master promissory note mpn you sign online.

Your Fordham account on line will have all the tasks you need to do to get the aid.

Since the OP has gotten a FA package from Fordham already I think it’s safe to assume that FAFSA and CSS profile have been filed this year.

The Tuition Aid award is merit $ and will not decrease over the four years but yes, it is contingent upon filing FAFSA annually. And as long as you don’t apply for and receive housing, you can also count on the commuter grant. You are also guaranteed an unsubsidized loan.

Yeah but I definitely did not file FAFSA or TAP.

So u haven’t filed?

Are you sure that your parent’s didn’t file? My understanding that FAFSA and CSS are required before Fordham will consider any kind of aid. We had to respond to questions about our FAFSA before my daughter’s aid could be considered.

We didn’t file a FAFSA but received an aid package from Fordham including grant and loans that was conditional on our filing-- so it does happen. I think they have earmarked those funds for you as long as you file your FAFSA.

At Fordham, you are considered for merit aid regardless of if you have filed a FAFSA/CSS or not. However, Fordham will not actually give you the merit aid until a FAFSA has been filed. Not exactly sure why you need to file a FAFSA for merit aid, but that is Fordham’s policy. My son got a merit scholarship although we did not request financial aid, so we did file the FAFSA so he would get his merit scholarship (it was well worth our time to file the form!).
