Fordham Financial Aid

Right now I am a high school senior and I am 90% on attending Fordham. However, I am waiting on money and I feel like they may not give me enough. I would need to pay $30-$35k to be able of having a realistic chance of attending. Fordham is my number one and I really love the school. I wanted to know from Fordham alums, Fordham students, or Fordham parents how they are with financial aid and how they tend to be when you appeal.

Keep in mind will be paying for three other kids (including me) next year

bump

what?

@thebellcurve “bump” means promoting the post so more people will see it to get feedback. ive been wondering the same thing and have a similar situation to you so im interested to see what people have to say

There was something on another thread that they will work with you. But remember, Fordham does not meet full need.

Just out of curiosity, what are you considering on majoring in?

@MomTheChauffer Could you link me to that thread? And finance with a minor in economics.

Have you run the net price calculator? Are you hoping for need-based or merit-based aid? What is your family’s EFC?

@InigoMontoya My family’s EFC is 19,856. And yes I ran the net price calculator and it could cost me about $65,000 to go to Fordham. I’m really hoping for need-based aid (mainly in grants).

If your EFC is <20,000 it seems odd the NPC would show $65K. Fordham does not guarantee to meet full need, but if your EFC is that much below what you think your family can pay, that’s a good sign. However, you will likely have a package that includes Federal student loans.

@thebellcurve Here is the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/fordham-university/1955984-transfer-student-to-fordham-rose-hill-answering-questions.html#latest

It’s a transfer student, but any info might help.

Let me give you my own personal scenario, this was back when my daughter was a senior and graduating HS in 2013: We ran the NPC when considering Fordham and it was slightly off by only a couple of thousand dollars. But it happened with all the schools she applied and accepted to. Fordham was one of the last schools she heard from. It came down to Manhattan College and Fordham. Manhattan, a less expensive school offered more in scholarship ($11K) and less in aid/loans, but offered work study. Fordham, much more expensive offered less scholarship ($7K) and more generous with their grant-in-aid and the usual loans, no work study, though this year and last she managed to get a work study. After running the numbers it was going to cost me about $2,000 a year more to send her to Fordham.

You mention you are going into Finance with a minor in Economics. Are you Gabelli?

@MomTheChauffer Thank you for mentioning that scenario, it was quite helpful! and Yes I am at Gabelli (Rose Hill).

You will find that being a Gabelli student will be great. You will have a job when you graduate. Many of my daughter’s friends who are Gabelli that will be graduating this year already have jobs lined up. You have printing services, resume services and internships/college fairs galore.

Keep that in mind when thinking about cost. There are those who have already paid off their loans with their paid internships.

Hi, this is not a reponse to the OP, but rather a general fordham fin aid question. I read online that Fordham can be “notorious” for giving students scholarships and then taking them away sophomore year. Anyone know what this means? Is this true? I got a nice scholarship, but if it is not guaranteed (assuming I keep a certain gpa up) all 4 years, I cannot go. Thanks!

I have never heard of Fordham ever taking away a scholarship, only if you don’t meet the required cumulative GPA in order to keep it. You also must complete the FAFSA every year to renew any grants received. I know of only one student who did lose her scholarship and that was only because they didn’t meet the cumulative GPA requirement.

Fordham is very strict in regards to maintaining that cumulative GPA. My daughter had to withdraw from prehealth because the GPA was getting very shaky and we couldn’t afford to lose that scholarship.

Are you sure that scholarship letter doesn’t state that the scholarship is guaranteed for four years if you keep a certain gpa? That’s what our letter said. I think in that case as long as you meet the stated requirements you are all set.

I am in the same boat as you. 30 to 35 a year to attend. Yikes. Not sure yet about going kitchen da of expensive.

Are you happy with your decision going to Fordham. Not sure if I should go there for pre med or stonybrook. What do you think
