Fordham Gabelli School of Business OR Villanova School of Business?? HELP

I am in a huge dilemma. I visited both schools and love them both. I would be happy at either school. Neither of them have given me aid (merit) but assuming they both give me the same amount of need-based aid where should I go?

When looking at rankings I get very confused! I want to do Marketing and Finance (as of now). In USWNR Fordham is ranked #21-Marketing and #22-Finance. Villanova is not even ranked for undergraduate business....WHY????

BUT in Bloomberg's Rankings put Villanova at #13 in the nation for Business.

Why is Villanova ranked so high in Bloomberg and not seen in USWNR...weird??

Anyways...

What school opens more doors for the future?
Where will I earn better/higher quality internships?
What school has a higher repuation/national recognition??
Who has better professors?
What school has a higher starting salary?
What school is more prestigious/harder classes?

I know Gabelli has a 5-year MBA but does VSB?

I'm sort of leaning towards Fordham due to its proximity to NYC, the best place in the world for business. But, Philadelphia isn't too shaby...right? Also, I really like NYC and can see myself living there in the future. Is Villanova known in NYC? I've read they are really just known as a basketball school outside of Philly.

Idk im confused.....

Both excellent schools and you aren’t losing out picking either over the other. Really, which one do you like better? That should be the main reason, because it isn’t going to make that much of a difference in the whole scheme of things.

For my kids, I would have picked V, simply because I would want them out of the area for undergrad, but if we lived in Philly, I’d have pushed F, for the same reason. V has the same name appeal to those who are into the Catholic college info but, in NYC, Fordham is better known as a favorite son. You don’t have to decide yet anyways, and you won’t get merit offers till the very end. You are more likely to get money from F than V, from what I have seen. That might be the turning point for you but you won’t know until March.

Correct. Take your time. Think. Look at courses, professors, and INTERNSHIPS.

Gabelli has new digs. Fabulous new digs. Amazing Manhattan internships for STUDENTS WHO PERFORM. Gabelli has a Beijing campus.

But cpt is correct. Something good about going away to college. Maturity!

Villanova is more catholic. Fordham is more diverse. Villanova is vanilla nova. For a reason.

Villanova has a stellar engineering school, if that matters.

Better sports overall, than Fordham.

Fordham is Jesuit. Villanova is Augustinian…bless their hearts. LOL.

Money does matter because of loans.

I adore Fordham. That is my bias. But Villanova is a fine, fine school.

And I have never really liked Philly that much. (Which goes back DECADES.) And I am not a New Yorker, either.

Good luck.

sovereign nailed it

If you see yourself living in NYC in the future, I think you answer your own question.

Both are excellent schools, but I think for someone who wants to work in NYC Fordham is better. I have read a few times on this thread that Fordham is good for people who want to work in NYC while Villanova is for people who want to work in Philly.

Not to put Philly and Villanova down though, but NYC definetely opens more doors in the business world.

As for if NYC is closer than home than Philly, that should not effect your decision. Some kids are not ready to go far away from home for college and that is fine! Just because you are close to home does not mean that you will not mature at college.

Have a first cousin Fordham grad business/finance who married Villanova business grad, the Fordham grad has better NYC connections/network, both work in NYC.
The Villanova grad when asked, said if you want to be in NYC–>Fordham, if its Philly -->Villanova.
Both have lost/gotten jobs over the years, and the Fordham grad seemed to have an easier time, both in same exact field.

You asked the exact same question on the Villanova thread; both really good schools. If you like Philly and will want to work there, pick Nova. Like NYC? pick Fordham. Good education at either.

The Bloomberg rankings are crazy. Wharton is ranked behind Emory? Please, get real. My response re undergrad business schools is as follows. If you can get into Wharton, go there. Otherwise look at factors like where you want to work.
