I have a Fordham HEOP interview coming up (It is a one-on-one interview, unlike the NYU informal session) and I was just hoping I would get some feedback from people who attended a Fordham HEOP interview. I was mostly wondering about the type of questions they ask, and when they send the decisions out.

I would appreciate it if someone with first-hand experience or second-hand experience could give me some insight. (Or anyone else who has knowledge in how HEOP interviews are conducted overall)

Hi, I am going to the HEOP interview as well, on Monday. My friend who already went said it was very short (around 20 min) where a guy just asked him about his interests and saw his documents. If you already went, do you mind telling me how it went? thanks.
I just got back from an HEOP interview today and I figured I should post about it here after lurking through this site. So, I think my interview went great and the woman I spoke too was very nice and we spoke a lot about my major, clubs, study abroad, housing, her HEOP kids, and personal stuff I spoke about in my essay. My interview lasted 45 min to an hour and we had plenty of time to have an intimate chat since it was her last interview of the day. I also brought my mom who helped with the financial docs.
Five major things:
*Despite what you’ve read online, HEOP (at least at Fordham) canno’t guarantee funding for 5 years, which is a (downside) for me personally
*It’s mainly a commuter program which is a given, and it might be difficult to get housing even in your sophomore year (downside)
*The HEOP counselors seem like genuine people that actually want to see you succeed and support you with your college decisions (huge advantage)
*They ask for a lot of exact documentation
*There’s a financial interview and academic interview. I have another interview coming up on the 30th
Overall though, I’m really content with the vibe of the school and I hope I get in. Downsides like no housing and lack of economic support for a fifth year can be resolved through scholarships and luck. If anyone has more questions, you can pm me.
I was being interviewed by the guy yesterday, while we were talking he accepted me on the spot. All i heard was “congradulations” and i was confused. Did you see the lady will out a paper? The guy who filled out mines checked “accepted”, dunno if i really got accepted or not :s
Haha, that sounds pretty confusing. No. the woman that interviewed me didn’t fill out papers. What happened to me was that I had a long conversation with the director of the program. I have another interview with her coming up to talk about academic stuff so I guess then they’ll send the decision in the mail.
But, I think you’re in good standing if you get called for the interview in the first place. She told me the HEOP class would be around 75 students out of the 700 applicants who got called for the program. And a trend i’ve been noticing is that out of that 700, some aren’t even eligible (I have a friend who got called for the program but her income is too high).
So overall I’d say just chill and wait it out. Congrats on your acceptance! lol
@Energyzer9597 my interview is with a guy and a women. the guy was the freshman adviser and the women is the soph and junior adviser. after the interview, i have a talk with the assistance director and that was it. after a few days, the heop office called to go pick up the package.
@BabyPanda33 Did they tell you at the interview that you were accepted? Because when I went to my interview, i sat down with an older guy and he asked me a couple questions and then told me I was accepted. Then after telling my whole family, a couple of weeks later i get a email saying I was rejected. I called them up and they said that no one would ever tell me I was accepted in the office and I couldn’t believe it.
@Energyzer9597 sorry to hear that u got rejected. where did u have ur interview? mine was at lincoln center. the guy that interviewed me was not old. also the assistance director told me that the staff in the heop officer dont accept student, its in the admission officer’s hands. she also told me when the office got all the documents from the student they will make a decision.
