Fordham honors program

I just got accepted to Fordham EA with a scholarship which is very excited as I’ve always wanted to go to New York for college and now it may be a possibility. A couple after hours I checked my decision, I got another email saying I was also accepted into their honors program. At first, I did not think much about but after researching I found that it is very competitive. Does anyone else have more information regarding the honors program at rose hill?

Hi! I’m a current student in the Fordham Rose Hill Honors Program. I think it’s a great community to be a part of and the classes and professors are really interesting. Essentially, the honors classes replace what would be the Fordham core curriculum, you take those classes with only honors students and they are exclusively taught as seminars. Let me know if you have further questions!

Hi, congrats on your acceptance & honors status! For anyone who sees this thread and would know the answer:

I got accepted with one of the best scholarships I’ve received from any school so far. I love everything about Fordham, but I was not offered a spot in the Honors Program. I know it is very difficult to get into, so I wasn’t expecting an invitation, but after researching more, it seems like an amazing opportunity that I would love to be a part of.

Would it be possible to try and advocate for a spot in the program for freshman year? Or could I work my way up to it over the years if I decide to attend Fordham?

Here are my stats if they help:

GPA- 94.00
SAT- 1450
Lots of ECs & work experience

Edit: This is in regards to the Rose Hill campus!

I received an email saying I got a Dean’s Scholarship. Does anyone know when I will know how much money that is exactly?

Congrats on your acceptance and scholarship! I suggest that you send an email to the Honors program indicating your interest. At this stage of the process, spots may open up for next year as those already accepted make a different choice. Check out the honors section of Fordham’s website for the contact information. Good luck!

Tell me more about honors at rose hill please. @naz0707 My daughter got in honors and is offered the National Merit tuition award. What were the first year classes? What is alpha house like? Is it a good study hang out spot?what other opportunities or events do honors kids have?

Hi, I applied to LC, so is the honors program not possible for me, or did I simply not get offered?

@silverpurple funny you mention the Alpha house: such a lovely little building on a lovely campus. I surely would live there if I were fortunate enough:)

@iniem1 LC does have an Honors cohort. You could always email your AO and ask them to pass on your interest or directly email the LC program. Since some accepted students might not end up enrolling, maybe there is a waitlist. Good luck!

@iniem1 I’m a senior in the honors program at LC. It’s actually quite a bit smaller than the RH honors program - usually capped at around 19 students per year. Basically the way that it works is that there is a basic cutoff based on hard numbers with academics, and then the director of the honors program chooses based on essays/extracurriculars/academic interests to assemble a varied class. Let me know if you have other questions!

Wow, it sounds like a real honor to have been selected in the honors cohort.

It’s honestly kind of a mystery, especially at LC. I know so many people with bigger scholarships than me and better college GPAs that are not in the honors program, although the difficulty of some of the honors classes compared to regular core classes might contribute to the latter.

Hello! https://www.fordham.edu/info/28534/rose_hill_honors_program this website has more in depth information on honors and the curriculum, but the freshman year classes are generally foundational and cover a big range of what generally constitutes the liberal art and get more specialized as a student moves through the program. Alpha House is fantastic. There are always fellow honors students in there studying or just hanging out on the weekends, it’s a two story building where the top floor is dedicated to class work and academics and the basement lounge is used as more of a social space. There are really great Honors events that are put on by Student Activities Committees, a mentorship program with upperclassmen, and a great alumni and professor base.
