Fordham (LC) vs. NYU

This is probably a typical question for many prospective applicants regarding NYU and Fordham Lincoln Center, and I don't really know if they've had a thread on this already (they probably have). Anyways, what are the differences between the schools in terms of:

Location

Social Life

Financial Aid

Students

Academic Environment

Professors

Student Life (Food, Dorms, etc.)

Resources Available to Students

Diversity

As well as any more that anybody else can add.

NYU has a much better Location

Don’t know about the social life, but I would assume NYU

Fordham is likely better for financial aid

NYU has higher caliber students

NYU has world-famous academics that are pioneering their fields; Fordham has more intimate and small classes

Student Life for NYU students are better; NYU has better dorms (also, at Fordham, members of the opposite sex are not allowed to stay overnight); better food; etc.

Not sure about resources, but again, I would have say NYU, as it’s a much more wealthy school.

NYU definitely has more diversity.

Be sure to post in the Fordham forum as well because you’re going to get biased answers here.

Have you visited both? I have a student at NYU and have visited both Lincoln Ctr a few times and have also been to the Rose Hill campus. The Lincoln Ctr campus is mostly one building for classes and one building for a dorm. I and my son did not like the one building for all approach. But I would also like to say that my impression of Fordham was that it a pretty damn good college. I can speak about NYU though. The dorms are much better than the dorm at Fordham in that you get a choice of which one would better serve your needs. Do you like the door opening to the corridor type dorm or do you want the suite type dorm.? The food is diverse in choices if you want to seek it out. Some food at the dorms is less interesting than other dorms and would mean finding the better choice areas and could be a hike. If food is a very important aspect, I would look at dorms with better food or easy to access. I would eat Fordham. It is your only choice (not counting the establishments that take your money or may take your food card) NYU is in Greenwich Village and is a much better location although having Central Park across the street isn’t too shabby. Union Sq is nearby NYU and is bustling on weekends. And having Washington Square in the heart of NYU is great. You will hear that NYU has no campus in the traditional sense but they own much of the property around Washington Sq. and certainly has a “somewhat” campus feel to it. It is like BU in that the university is in the middle of Boston and hasn’t a campus but everything around you is owned by BU and does have a “feel” to it. And if you have an idea of a major, maybe one ot the other school is better for you. And financial aid? No contest…Fordham.

If you are having trouble deciding over NYU or Fordham I would say NYU. It’s just like the LC campus (or the idea of studying in Manhattan) but it is a more extensive university than LC because it is bigger, more diverse, better location and cooler people!!

Also, the academics are way better and so is the social life.
