Fordham LC

Okay, so I'm going to be a communications major and I got into the Lincoln Center campus. I'm from Jersey so I already know that I love the city. However, I hate high school and from what I have read on this site, Fordham LC is just like it. If that is the case I would not want to go. Is there anyone who actually enjoyed their time there?

Congratulations on your acceptance! :)

So it seems that you have already read that some people think LC is like HS and so you likewise must have read that my S doesn’t and neither do any of his friends. And I’m getting tired of writing about it.

I recommend you visit and see what you think which is really all that matters in the end. Good luck!

I don’t understand what high schools some students came from if they think LC is like high school. Yes, we are a small school, with small classes and a small student body. However, that is one of the things I like most about my campus. I like that in my english class last semester, we were able to sit in a circle and spend three hours discussing the literature we just read, while relating it to the arts, philosophy, captivity, and our lives. I like that none of my classes are over 30 people, so that we are able to fully engage in what we are learning and have the ability to get to know the professors on more of a personal level. And, honestly, I like that we have a small resident population, because to me I think it makes it more of a close-knit community then if I were going to a school with 20,000+ students, where I would be extremely overwhelmed and feel like another number than an individual student. No matter where you go, you will always run into factions. That is just life. But, I encourage you to use college as an opportunity to start fresh and look at everything from a new perspective, and find out what it is that makes you happy, not what you might think you might enjoy.

I don’t know how you can say none of your courses are over 30 students. The vast majority of mine were 35-40 with only 4 of 15 being under 20 students.
The high school comments, I believe, come from the students gossiping/ with such a small class everyone knows everyone else’s business. Not that I personally agree with that statement but I think it is the opinion of a number of students.

I agree that the negative HS references are probably re HS like gossip and drama. And that may be the opinion of some of the students who more than likely are in the middle of it! Stay above it…LC won’t feel like HS and you’ll be more well liked than the catty gossips. Also keep in mind, that LC doesn’t have ownership over all gossip and drama just bc it’s a small school. You’ll find it everywhere and not only in college. Don’t get sucked in.

Fordham recently limited the maximum number of students per class to 35. I think it is ********, but whatever. I had about 60-80 in my Philosophy of Human Nature course and I loved it. Too many people simplify it to just being a number, but you are given plenty of time during discussion groups to make it known how strong you are of a student. It was nice to know that I scored second or third highest on the midterm out of the whole class!

I don’t think LC is like high school at all. The only time I have ever thought that was when some girl in the hallway was *****ing about how her mom found her cigarettes and she was grounded for two weeks. I was walking past the lockers - obviously she was a commuter. (On the whole, most commuters that are living at home are just dumb and annoying.) But there is only as much drama as you create.

The gossip comment is just ridiculous. Good luck finding a school that doesn’t gossip! You will need something to talk about on the way to class or on line for a Diet Coke.
