Hey everyone! I’m really struggling to make a decision about what college to go to next fall. I’m currently deciding between Fordham Lincoln Center and Binghamton University. I was admitted to Gabelli business school at Fordham and the business school at Binghamton. I’m not dead set on business though so there is a possibility I may change majors. I’m really struggling because I’m eligible for a scholarship that would essentially pay for my entire tuition at Binghamton, while Fordham would be 30k a year. I think Fordham has better internship opportunities being that it is in the middle of NYC, while Binghamton is in a more rural area, but I don’t know if that is worth passing up free tuition. I also love NYC and all the art and culture there, but I’m a bit concerned if I go to Fordham I’ll be missing out of the full college experience because Fordham Lincoln center does not have a traditional campus. My family isn’t made of money, but my parents would be able to afford tuition for Fordham if I decide to go there. I’m just looking for advice about which school would be the best fit and have the best value. Thanks!!
For full disclore my S went to Fordham Rose Hill and loved it but for the $120k difference in price I’d go to Binghamton. That can pay for grad school if you decide to go or a host of other things. You can find summer internships in NYC and even live in NYC for the summer (Fordham LC and NYU leases out dorms) for a tiny fraction of the difference.
Obviously living in Manhattan is a unique experience but you definitely would not get the campus feel. For what it’s worth, I went to Binghamton and virtually all of my friends got summer or winter internships. If you’re looking for value, the answer is clear, but it depends on what your priorities are for your college experience.
Thanks! Did you like going to Binghamton?
From someone who applied to both schools, go with Binghamton for the real campus experience and the great cost difference.
As others say, best value = Binghamton. Best fit = only you can answer that depending on where you feel more comfortable and want to study. I would recommend that you save the $30K a year and see if your parents will make a small donation to to help with living costs in NYC after graduation.
