Fordham Merit Scholarships/Need Based Financial Aid

Hi everyone! Was just wondering if anyone knew when merit awards/need based financial aid is coming out for early action admits?

Not before Feb 1st via mail.

Financial awards are now being posted on the MyFordham portal. Difficult to find. Once on My.Fordham.edu site goto the Applicant tab and bottom left My Account Links section. Click on All you need to know about your Financial Aid and this will take you to details on awards and FA - including a full COA breakdown.

It would be great if people could post what additional Merit they got. Posters that were accepted early action said that they were expecting additional Merit at the end of January early for February.

My D not very happy as she loves Fordham - got merit award of $12.5K but that still puts COA at over $62K. Need more than that to make Fordham affordable compared to other options like Pitt and Loyola Maryland

I got like 40k in aid from them, and 5500 in loans, which works for my parents. Is it really 72k to attend? I always thought it was like 67k but I guess the price went up that much. It is NYC though, so I can’t say I’m surprised. but I am glad I got this much in aid, I didn’t realize they didn’t give that much out and I at least have a college I can go to and afford for next year which alleviates the stress of my reach school decisions coming out in April.

if anyone is gonna ask for stats or something, I had a 1470 on my sat’s and 3.65-3.68 unweighted while taking 7 ap classes. Have some unique ec’s though which prob is why they gave me so much financial aid.

My D applied early action and got Deans scholarship for at least 15K per year. Mentioned in February she would know actual amount up to 30K. Has it been updated? I can seem to log into anything. She only applied for federal aid so maybe that’s why no log in info outside of regular portal?

@introtoxx - Yes check out the ‘Shopping List’ button on the Financial award/aid screen - its says total COA for 18/19 is $74,550!! Thats why $12.5k merit is not enough for us.
My Ds stats are good but not the highest - ACT 28 (29 superscore), 3.92 GPA UW, 5 APs, strong essay and good leadership ECs.

Planning on appealing this with COA breakdowns from the other colleges she is considering who have been more generous with merit awards and costs are lower to start off with.

@Veryapparent I got into the FA portal by re-opening the “View Update” link on the personal portal where the acceptance letter was posted. Once inside the acceptance letter, I clicked on “my.fordham.edu/finaid.” But I think if you just type that in you will go directly there. From there you have to have set up your IT password. Once into that portal, click the second “Applicant” tab at the top. Then scroll down to the “My Account Links” box and you’ll see “Financial Aid.” Click on “All you need know about your financial aid.” You’ll see “your award information” and “shopping sheet.”

I received the Fordham Jogues Scholarship for $10,000 a year, the Fordham Tuition Award for $11,500 a year, and a loan for $5,500 a year, totaling to $27,000 a year. My stats are 3.8 W GPA, 1410 SAT, good EC’s/great essay & recs.

I only got the Loyola Scholarship, even though I am a national merit semifinalist (soon to be finalist). I have a 35 ACT, 3.6 UW (4.2 W) GPA, great recs and a great essay. It says on the website that the scholarship is “awarded with admission for the top 2-3% of admitted students.” Does this mean that I’m not qualified for the scholarship because my GPA is too low or something? Ugh, this is aggravating!

This may be a dumb question, but for those of us who are ED or EA admittees, are these FA notifications the final FA/merit award notifications?

@YoungOne4 - I believe these are the final awards and notification on the portal. I think there were a few last minute additions last year after Feb - but rare.

My S got a Deans Scholarship of $33,500 per year, plus loans of $5,500 (part unsubsidized). 1470 SAT, 34 ACT. But I really think the “merit” aid was based largely on need. It’s more than double what we were told in December the Deans Scholarship would be worth, and it brings COA for S roughly to what our FAFSA EFC is.

@stepl100 Thank you!

Everyone else: Congratulations!

DD was awarded a Jogues scholarship for $10,000. It was a pleasant surprise but unlikely to make Fordham affordable. 4.81 wGPA/ 27 ACT.

my only scholarship was for 7k from the UPS foundation or something, the rest was 33k in ‘need based’ aid. How come other people get more or less than I did? Isn’t it purely based on how much you can afford which the college then fills in with grants?

@gclsports Daughter has similar stats and EFC and received the same scholarship bump. Out of curiosity how does this rank now with your sons other choices. For us it’s considerably cheaper than the CSS schools so far.

Got an offer of $25K, with stats of 3.6 GPA and 31 ACT. It’s not a bad offer, but not enough to make Fordham competitive with in-state options or OOS publics that made merit offers. It’s too bad it starts out as such an expensive school.

does any1 kno if the awards are final? do any additional merit scholarships get offered to students after feb 1?
