Fordham or Hofstra ?

Which school should I transfer too Hofstra or Fordham ??

Im looking to see who has the best business programs as well as a college enivronement and social ife , but also like the aspect of being close to the city ...

Also is it a good idea to go ahead and apply , but send send my transcripts till the end of the semester that being in May, since Im pulling to bring my Gpa up ?? .

well, when are your transcripts due? you should send them before the application deadline, and then if there is an improvement before you get your decision, have your dean let them know.

personally, i would say fordham, despite the fact that i applied to hofstra and not fordham. it's a lot easier to get into manhattan from fordham and you can take classes at the lincoln center campus; this isnt true of hofstra. most people regard hofstra as not much more than a step up from community college. fordham is pretty well known for its business programs, and is just more highly regarded in general.
i did get a ton of scholarship money from hofstra though, and i dont know how good fordham is with financial aid.

why cant you apply to both and see where you get in? have you visited the campuses?

I havent visisted the campuses of the 2 ? ... Those are two shcools im looking i nthe NYC area and my 3rd choice would be temple...

I just one to knmow which one would be better for me all in getting a good business school while o nthe other hand also having a college environment socially .

okay.. well.. first i would say learn to proofread..
i dont see why you cant just apply to all 3. my preference would be fordham, and temple no way (new york is wayyyy better than philadelphia!); i'd say you would be more challenged at fordham but i know hofstra has a huge party scence. and it's also about half an hour from the city, half an hour from the beach, which is fabulous.
it's impossible for anyone except you to say which would be better for you. and it's pretty hard for you to determine that without visiting the schools.

Social Life = Hofstra

Business Program = Fordham

Prestige = Fordham

I suggest you go to Fordham if you can get in. This is not to say Hofstra is bad, one of my best friends goes there and loves it, but I would suggest Fordham if you want to get a leg up in post-collegiate job opportunites.

A word of caution: Hofstra students have an above average rate of STDs. There was a blood drive sept 11 and the majority of it had to be discarded because many people unknowingly had STDs. Also, Hofstra is basically all typical Long Island a-holes. Though for Business Hofstra is better than Fordham I'd think. Just as a little proof of this, my mom is a vp of a business company and she went to NYU Stern school of business, and her boss went to Hofstra.

just because one president went to hofstra doesnt mean that hofstra has a better program than fordham. nyu's stern is considered superior to both fordham and hofstra and yet your mom is not the president.. name of school is only one factor.

hofstra definitely has a better social life but that doesnt mean fordham is lacking, i mean, come on, it's new york!!!!

andd where do you get that info about stds? i'd believe it (ha) but i wouldnt think that would be a factor in choosing schools.. you should always use protection whether at brigham young or hofstra!

dont listen to madden bus about the high STD rate. that is PURE MYTH. i have many friends that go to Hofstra and they are bombarded by this rediculous myth on a regular day basis. people are skanky there, i absolutely agree about that, but the fact of the matter is that the student to students with STD ratio is not any different than any university of that size and location.

also, just as scarfmadness said, one president coming from Hofstra being higher on the totem pole than a person from a much hier tier school mean ABSOLUTELY nothing. my father went to community college and is the president of an extremely profitable corporation. the school is just a name and gives you an edge for your first and second innitial jobs. after that its all experience and ability to get work done. please dont post if you have no idea what you're talking about. it gives people who need actual answers a false interpretation of the truth.

my mom is not the president because it's not her company and she's only been working there a few months. Even if you do go to the best business school, it doesn't make up for connections. I was just illustrating a point about the Hofstra business program. Anyway, the way you get ahead in business is by connections, not what undergrad you go to. It really does not matter if you go to Harvard or Hofstra, you must make connections or you'll never get past middle management in business.

Have you ever been to Hofstra? Have you ever met the people there? I know about 10 people there, everyone of them is afraid of STDs so much so that they really try to avoid Hofstra girls. They've seen a few people with lesions on their face due to advance stages of AIDS. That thing about the blood drive is true, it's been verified by numerous sources and the news. And it IS higher than at most colleges. I'm not saying that everyone has STDs at Hofstra, but the rate is above the average college rate.

And additionally, it's not as cut and dry to say who's business program is better and I thought that the hofstra program was better because I've read statistics that show more people in jobs and business grad school get in from hofstra than fordham. How bout you do some more research and get the facts, then you can criticize other people's posts. Telling other people not to post doesn't make your post correct.

Thanks for the info Mates , I have honestly been killing mey head this apst week with extensive research ....... Know lest calm down about what Madden said , Madden was just being friendly cool person giving me info , But basically lets just summarize in the end if you dont have any people skills and interactions even if you attened Harvard or WAHRTON YOU wil not get into top of the game , is all about networkig and the people you know , dont get me wrong having a prestigious degree from there your on top of the game as long as you have the whole package.

Now about Hofstra it really doesnt surprise me about al lthe STD'S hello this is college , the University I currently attend is no different , but Myabe Hofstra is above it.

Are my impressions accurate of the 2 schools , You tell me Please ??

I get a sense Fordham definately has a better more prestigious Business school than Hofstra , but onthe other hand get asense at Hofstra is a more fun collegewhith more spirit in which they have also have good education but lesser than Hofstra, but a more fun atmosphere...

Im basically looking for a good business school but also a good social college life , in all honesty it seems so out of this world to live close to NYC and attend college.

By the way thanks for the valuable info ....

no prob henesy, I'm just trying to tell you how it is. I dunno where you are from , but I personally hate long island (lot of aholes) and I've lived there for 12 years , before that I lived in manhattan. Anyway, if you really like the city, you should check out the CUNY schools. Baruch has a good business program. But Hofstra or Fordham are close to the city if you prefer the suburban feel. And I wasn't trying to scare you about the hofstra STDs, that's just what I hear man. Anyway, best of luck with what you choose.

Madden ,

No man its all good thats for your inisght , that is just college .

Now I been looking at Baruch but it seems I wouldnt experience a college life atmosphere plus wouldnt be able to socialize thats just my main fear since it is an all commuter school people come and go and are to busy with shcool and work .

Is Fordham more like IN THE CITY , and if so which one would you recommend why or why not .

Fordham's campus is in the Bronx. The Bronx is probably the second worst borough of NYC behind the landfill itself, Staten Island. I've never been to the Fordham campus so I don't know too much about it's location, but there aren't many great areas of the Bronx. Hofstra, however, isn't really the greatest for social life because about half the people there commute. You'll find some parties and such though.

technically the bronx IS the city. hempstead is a long island suburb, but fordham is in new york city.

Okay, people really need to stop it about Hofstra. I have gone to Hofstra (currently at another school because of money problems, may be returning this fall), and all of these rumors about everyone having STD's is just really stupid. Just because you know a few people who go there and they say that does not mean it's true. The party life is great, but that has nothing to do with the STD rate. It is no higher than at any other college and I would love to see someone present me with VALID evidence that it is.

Second, Hofstra has a GREAT business program - so much so that it's Hofstra best program and gets the most funding of any of them. In fact, you should go and talk to some of the businesses around Hofstra and NYC and you will see...because of the extensive and in-depth internships that Hofstra will give you, many businesses even come and recruit each year at Hofstra because they know that the graduates are well prepared for the business world. It's a rigorous program and really good for people who have the drive to succeed.

Personally though, Hofstra is not more fun than NYC...almost nothing is more fun than NYC. You can go to Fordham and still have a great social life. Just go with what you feel and do what's best for you.
