Fordham or Northeastern?

Fordham or Northeastern for journalism/communications/media?

-i got accepted to the NU IN program which basically means I would have to study abroad my first semester
-the program for my major at Northeastern isn’t very big
-however, i really like NU’s co-op program(take up to three semesters off to work, don’t need to pay tuition and counts toward class credit)!!!
-ranking at NU is pretty high, heard it would look good on future job applications
-i visited both campuses and liked both of them
-ranking at Fordham isn’t as high, but NY is the center for my major

Take out the possible earnings from co-ops, and calculate the difference in costs for all four years. Where would that difference come from? Is the cheaper place truly affordable to begin with?

If you want to set up co-ops from Fordham, surely that is possible.

What is your major that is centered in NY?

Who is it exactly who has told you that NU would look better than Fordham on a job application for your specific career goal?

What do you mean when you write that the program for your major at NU isn’t as big as at Fordham? Number of students? Number of courses offered? Variety of different emphases within the major?

Many students change their majors. If you change yours, where would you rather be?

The tuition at Fordham for me would be 35k per year (scholarships) and at NU it would be 70k (got nothing:((()
However, if i do 3 semesters of co op at NU, that would be 105k less than what would be the total of 280k.

My major in NY is media/journalism and I understand there are many intern and news organization opportunities, possibly more than in Boston.

I talked to some students at NU, they gave me that info.

When I visited NU, the facility for the journalism program wasn’t as advanced as Fordham. Also, the program is pretty small, it’s not an emphasized major at NU. So yes, there are a smaller number of students and courses offered. Most people go to NU for engineering or business. (got this info from current students).

I’ve actually been set and passionate towards this major for many years, I don’t think I would switch to anything else.

Seems to me that your heart and your pocketbook both say Fordham. You seem to feel that the Fordham program for journalism is stronger; NYC provides more internship opportunities – and will cost you significantly less.

You don’t pay tuition while on co-op, but you’ll end up paying for 8 academic semesters, for a total of 280K. That price difference is huge, so I’d recommend Fordham.

Go with Fordham.
As mentioned above, the NEU cost will be the same $70k for four years, except that with the co-op your tuition will be suspended while you’re doing your co-op. But your other academics are suspended as well, meaning it will take you five years (or so) to graduate. That may be a good thing for you, but do consider that you’ll be graduating after your cohort.

Fordham also has a more interdisciplinary approach to Journalism and combines it with active new media’s,
which enhance your chances of a realistic job after graduation. Fordham has plenty of connections for bot internships and part-time jobs within the industry.
