So I'm applying to Fordham as a transfer student for the spring 2012 semester. Does anyone know what the housing situation will be like? I've spoken with several administrators who say that the housing is usually very limited for transfer students at Rose Hill.

I really want to go to Fordham! Hopefully somebody can offer some good news about housing here...

Housing is limited at RH but its possible. Definitely worth a shot. A number of juniors go abroad for their spring semester so housing may actually open up. My S’s friend who transferred in last fall got housing in one of Fordham’s off campus apartments. If you don’t get housing, a lot of students take apartments off campus, but I know that is not the ideal way to start a new school. Good luck.

I’m still currently a freshman, so I don’t think I’d be living in an off-campus apartment… I think they’d probably prefer me to live with either freshman or sophomores. I know of a few spots in Queen’s Court because people have already left, so I think I’d bring that up. Also, I checked on the application that I wouldn’t be able to accept an offer of admissions without housing (because I can’t commute). All this waiting is driving me nuts!

At least my son’s year, they used people leaving a dorm as an opportunity to de-triple some rooms, but who knows, you may get lucky. If you would like a wellness dorm like Queens, they have an upperclass one that usually has soph. and jr. so you may want to send and email or something and let them know that is an option for you. And despite what you ask, Fordham does sometimes accept people without housing even if they say they need it. Again, good luck.

I was admitted as a Spring Transfer for 2012 but did not get housing. It’s not a huge issue for me, but I have asked the school multiple times since my acceptance about housing and it looks nearly impossible for any transfers to get housing for next semester. Good luck!

i got an e-mail a couple days ago that I was admitted. Not even a mention of housing so I guess they stand firm on the no housing this semester for transfers.
I have a lot to think about before I commit though, my commute is very lengthy and with no guarantee of housing next year I’m not sure I’ll be able to go, I want to see the financial aid, and Fordham does not want to take a full semesters worth of credits from college classes I took in high school so I have a ton to sort through before I make up my mind

not at all.
High School was alright, prob an 86 or 87 average.
Graduated with an Associates Degree from a Community College in NY with a 3.7 (4.0 in my major)
Great recommendations, great extracurriculars, solid essay, and showed a desire that I want to attend Fordham which I think matters

transfer2000 - It may be a waste of time, but I’d call ResLife at Fordham to ask if housing is expected to open up for the second semester and how you can get on a waiting list. You never know…

Hi. I am in the same situation. I really want to go to Rose Hill, but I did not receive housing. I have been in talks with residential life and they pretty much guaranteed that no transfers will get housing. If there is enough demand for it they said that they would send out an email that gives the names and majors of those who are transferring in that way we can try and get housing together. I think this is a good idea, but it has to be done quickly since the end of the semester is next week. I know that some students that live off campus live on Arthur Avenue so I am thinking that I will start to look there, but I would preferably like to live with another transfer student.

i think sending out an email like that would be a great idea, im really souring on the idea of commuting with no guarentee that I would recieve housing next year

I agree. I emailed Ms. Amico who is with housing services, she will send out the email but only if people ask for it. I go to school in DC right now, so my parents are not really on board with me going unless I somehow find housing either on campus or off campus with people.

I will email Ms. Amico than also and request this list.
I’m from Long Island so I have option of commuting but from where I am it is about a 2 hour train/subway ride so its not ideal. I think I could do it for the spring if I had to but past that I would rather dorm on or off campus.

Are any of you guys freshman? Because if your sophmores or juniors housing most likely will not open up because many do not transfer out that late in the game. A lot of sophmores and juniors do off campus housing in the apartments so i recommend you look into that instead but you would have to lease them for summer too if you were looking for housing for spring. I know this info from my brother who attends fordham.

ill hopefully be going in as a junior if all my credits are accepted. Ya, I dont expect to get on campus housing this spring and off campus would be nice but im not sure i want to pay over the summer when i probably wont be living there. alot to think about, gonna keep all my options open and hope for the best

I am a Sophomore. I am pretty sure that I will not be getting housing but it would be nice to to know where other students who live off campus live. That way we can actually be apart of the University. I really dont want to pay for the summer since I will be living in Manhattan during those months, but commuting is not an option for me.
