Fordham transfer Spring 2014 - please help!

Hi everyone. I know you are probably sick of all the chance posts but I would be truly grateful for any suggestions or advice. I am looking to transfer to Fordham University Rose Hill for the Spring semester 2014. I am currently a nervous wreck. Fordham is my dream school. My mother, aunt, and uncle are all former alumn. Would this help me at all?

A little about my academic history-
Did fairly well in high school, not amazing, most A's and B's and only 2 C's my senior year. I wasn't extremely involved in extra curriculars but did do a lot of volunteer work. I was part of the Best Buddies Club my junior and senior year as well as Unified Sports, both partner special needs children in the area with mentors and support. I was also volunteer at a Summer bible camp my Freshman year. I went to a catholic academy my first two years and transferred to a public school my junior year for financial reasons. Would that be a problem ? I was also a volunteer at Yale New Haven hospital working with elderly patients diagnosed with dementia.

My SAT scores were not good. I'm pretty sure around a 1350.

I am currently at a community college that's pretty well respected. I went here for financial reasons and because I felt I was not ready to attend a four year university right out of high school. I currently have 18 credits and a 3.88 GPA. I am taking four classes this semester which will make 30 credits at the end of this semester. I plan to maintain my GPA. I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I am a member of the Organization of Latin America Students, which promotes diversity and reaches out to support the Hispanic community in the area. I am also a member of the International Club. I have contiuned to volunteer throughout college at Yale New Haven Hospital. I now work at the pediatric oncology department leading support to patients diagnosed with cancer and their families. I have been working throughout my time at community college as well. First as a hostess, and now as a part time nanny. Does Fordham look closely at volunteer work, clubs, and work history ? Also, I am a bit worried about my transcript, not about my grades but about a semester I had to take off. There was a family crisis, my mother had a heart attack, which left me to take care of my sister because my mother is a single parent. This left me having to withdraw from 3 courses. Thankfully this did not effect my GPA, I just have a W next to the class. Will this hurt my chances? I will be getting a letter of recommendation from the chair of the humanities department. Fordham's website says only one is necessary. Should I get another?

Oh and I'm also half Hispanic and raised by a single Hispanic mother. Do you think Fordham would take that into consideration as well?

If anyone has any advice, thoughts, or suggestions I would be so grateful !!!

Just wondering if anyone had any advice? I would really appreciate it!!

Maybe you can write about why you have that W on your transcript. I think colleges will be able to understand. But your GPA looks really good, even if your SAT wasn’t great. Your college GPA makes up for that.
And yes, your mom being an alumni helps you getting in.
I’d say its a high-match. Congrats!
