Fordham Transfer Students Fall 2011

I thought I'd start a thread where transfer questions could be answered for Fordham.

I have been admitted to the Business School for Fall 2011 and have quite a few questions and suspect I am not the only one.

On my acceptance it says I've been admitted as a resident student. Does that mean I will be receiving on campus housing? (I live in CA and suspect that might have given me resident housing)

Also, what are the internship opportunities that Fordham offers? I am applying to schools with CO-OP programs and they are VERY enticing.

Last, Can someone fill me in on the Fordham core curriculum? I have a feeling it may be difficult to fulfill for a transfer student.

lefthanded4life, when did you receive your acceptance and when did you submit your application? Because I’m still waiting for a decision and my application’s been in and complete for 5-6 weeks, but I do go to school in Texas so mail from the Northeast tends to take a while to get here…

I actually received my acceptance by email. It was not in the my.Fordham login or anything like that.

I believe my materials had been in about 4 weeks or so when u received it on march 31st.

The only thing I’ve received in the mail was acknowledgement that they received my app and now a financial aid form asking for tax information. Nothing in the mail has mentioned my acceptance.

Did you apply as a junior? How many credits were accepted? What major?

It was actually not posted on the acceptance email. Depending on the school I applied for an econ or accounting major. It just depended on what they offered.

At Fordham I was accepted to Gabelli School of Business in the Economics major. I will not know how many units transfer until I receive the transfer credit evaluation form that I was told will arrive with the paper copy acceptance letter.

I will finish my last semester of CC this spring with (don’t laugh) 69 transferable units. I am hoping that 60+ will transfer.

I applied as a Sophomore transfer form an equally ranked, 4 year private university.

All transfer students will receive their notice of acceptance through email before mail. Lefthanded4life, I got my letter of acceptance on the same day you did and was also admitted as a resident student. I’m taking it as we received housing…hopefully.

Also the core curriculum at Fordham is very rigorous but it all depends on what courses you took at your previous university if it’ll be too difficult to fulfill or not. I believe you can call the dean of Fordham college after the rest of our application documents have been mailed to us and he can better assist you on whether or not you’ll be able to fulfill the requirements on time.

Also I applied about six weeks+ ago, so I’m sure you’ll find out soon max310. Goodluck!! What was your gpa?

Jpozz - what do you mean too difficult to fulfill? I can’t imagine it’s the rigor of the courses that would defer anyone from completing them, more the time structure and if they are willing to take extra courses.

Ganks-Sorry you’re right I should have made that distinction. It is the time frame that would make them difficult to fulfill in your four years, not the rigor of the courses themselves.

Does anyone know what the core curriculum includes? Or where I can find it?

I am going to an I go session in socal next week and that is one question I plan on asking. For me it will probably make a big difference if most of my classes transfer which I’m pretty sure about. However I doubt any of the classes that I have taken will satisfy core requirements other than freshman English, math, etc.

Lefthanded, do you know if we’ll be receiving financial aid details within our offical letter of acceptance?

hey everyone!
i applied to Fordham Lincoln Center today as undecided for fall 2011! I will be going into my sophomore year.
My GPA is a 4.0 from Marymount Manhattan College, sats 1740 (ehhh), and i have a complete resume and thorough essay!
I was wondering if anyone could let me now about the process and what happens, how long it was before you guys got your answers, how heavily SATs are weighted, how rare it is to get housing, and how long you guys had to decide if you wanted to accept the admission offer!
Ive been mad stressed out and i would really appreciate some help! So who ever has any answers to any of these questions, it will be greatly appreciated!

Srivera, Hey I am also going into my sophmore year and was accepted with an 1820 SAT and 3.9 GPA from St. John’s University. I also wrote an amazing essay (Fordham is my dream school and I wasn’t admitted as a freshman applicant) and had a great letter of recommendation from a professor I really got to know.

Fordham just started sending out letters of acceptance to transfers and their general rules is that you should find out two weeks from submitting your application. Also you will find out via email before receiving an official letter in the mail. Since you will have only completed one year of college when applying they will most likely still take a good look at your SAT’s however I don’t think that low scores will hurt you that much.

On the Fordham website it states that housing for transfers is extremely limited but I know of three (including myself) transfer students that have been admitted as resident students for this fall.

Good Luck!!!

Hi I’m also going to be a sophmore and was recently accepted as a transfer student to fordham. So just to clarify if it says in our acceptance email that we are accepted as a resident student then we have housing?

thank u so much jpozz for u help/advice! im just nervous my SAT’s will hurt me because like you, i wasnt admitted either the first time. When did u apply and how long after did you hear? Alligator, you too? how long after u guys applied did u get a decision…
i hope applying now didnt hurt my chances because it seems like alot of people have already applied i figured that two months prior to the deadline wouldnt be a problem… i hope not!

oh and jpozz… did u get any notification that Fordham received your materials? or did u just get your acceptance 2/3 weeks after?

Jpozz has it exactly right.

I can add that I received no notification on which materials they had received and when. I know sometimes update you on their portal. Fordham does no such thing.

I also did not receive any notification that my application was complete. I would suggest calling in a couple days or next week to see if they have received everything which is what I did.

Well it took almost two months for me to get a reply back because like I said in a previous post, Fordham just started looking at transfer applications for the fall. Im not sure exactly how long it took them to review my application and send it back to me. However, I am sure it wont take that long for you to find out now that they have finished freshman applications.

Alligator, I actually called Fordham admissions today and they told me that if it says we were admitted as resident students with an offer of housing it means that we really were admitted as resident students. I was also informed that callling the number that the acceptance email gives you to inquire about your housing offer is pointless because the housing department will not be given the names of the applicants who have received housing for another couple weeks.

Hope that helps.

Oh so resdent student doesnt mean a student that has received housing? I’m sorry this is confusing. but thanks for your clarifictions!!
