Spouse and S22 visited Fordham LC in Feb 2022, along with a number of other NYC schools. They flew into LGA airport and took the connecting bus and subway into Midtown (because public transportation is how he would be getting around in real life.) Stayed at some random hotel that we found online, can’t even remember which one now. Over the next 2 days, they took the subway all over to visit Pratt, New School, FIT, Fordham LC, NYU, and a couple of CUNYs (didn’t have formal visits at all of these.) Did not visit Fordham Rose Hill, but had they wanted to they still would have stayed in Midtown and would have taken Metro North up to RH.
Fordham LC had a pretty good tour. Not as good as Pratt, but better than NYU which was super impersonal and seemed almost like a tourist trap. The campus vibe at Fordham LC seemed pretty good. Students were friendly and artsy. Fordham LC is very urban (made of high rises) but there is a pretty central court which provides an area of tranquility and a “campus feel” although small. They didn’t get to see the dorms on the tour, but the dorms are gorgeous, especially the freshman dorm McKeon which has huge windows with amazing views. One surprise is that there is one classroom building that looks on the inside exactly like a high school with lockers, and vinyl floors, and tile and everything. There were some people on the tour who seemed turned off by this, but S22 didn’t mind as he did not care about having a college that looks like Hogwarts (the RH campus does look like Hogwarts, but not LC.)
There is tons to do around Fordham LC, and spouse and S22 just played it by ear. They went to Central Park and a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, both easy walking distance. Toward the end of the day, spouse was tired out, but S22 wasn’t, so he went to the TKTS booth in Times Square and bought a discount ticket and watched a Broadway show by himself, which let him know he could feel comfortable in the city being independent.
