To everyone who received a decision: Do you live relatively close to Fordham University? I didn’t get anything today…

Luyw2, was that sarcasm or did you drop a zero?

im from queens and got my letter today

Notakid: lol that was not sarcasm. my total awards is 42550 because my efc is low and I am a commuter. And 5500 of that is federal loans. But that amount could vary a little I guess. Also, I got my letter today because I live in NYC.

Congratulations, luyw12.

@notakid thanks it is very likely that I’ll go…unless I get into binghamton. Good luck if you are waiting :)

ACCEPTED!! true story: I was sitting in my room hysterically crying for over an hour when i got my letter. I’ve wanted this letter for years.

In the letter though, it says “Although you indicated on your application that you would like to be considered for campus housing, we regret that we are unable to grant your request at this time.” Is this because I live on Long Island and they figure the commute would not be that bad? Is it because I was deferred for early action and they’re not giving me any top student priorities or anything?

And most importantly, is there any chance of me getting on campus housing? Is it possible? Because other people in my town were offered housing… :/

My financial aid package came with the acceptance. I wouldn’t worry, though. A friend of mine didn’t receive her financial aid package either, though she sent in her forms late. By the way, it’s not like a huge, all-encompassing scholarship. “Students eligible for both a Metro Grant and Scholarship will receive the higher award which is the Loyola.” Commuter kids get the Metro, but I guess mine turned into the Loyola. The rest of it is grants and work study.

The people who got their letters today all appear to be in the NYC area. So the rest of you, hold tight. They ought to be comin’ soon!

I live on the next Exit from Fordham, I could walk there if I wanted.

JCmarpw:

I dont think being deferred from EA has any effect on housing. But here are my thoughts: first, call them on Monday and politely ask if you can be reconsidered for housing, that you are going to accept their offer of admission and decline any others from other schools, and that you need housing because the commute would be too difficult. Second, housing sometimes opens up in January (second semester) of Freshman year as kids leave for various reasons, so get on the wait list for that immediately. Third, if you don’t want to commute you can accept another school’s offer of admission.

Housing is somewhat limited at Rose Hill. I presume you asked for admission to Rose Hill. (Its even more limited at Lincoln Center). Fordham sometimes offers admission to students as commuters who might otherwise not have been offered (on the bubble.) Not sure what your stats are, but Fordham’s profile for incoming freshmen has been rising rapidly in recent years (over 100 SAT points, e.g.)

Good luck to you and welcome to Fordham. Come prepared to work very hard.

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! I applied EA and got deferred, but then I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday which I am sooo happy about, but then it said that I’m not guaranteed on-campus housing!

I live in Bergen County NJ so I’m wondering too if they said that because of the close-proximity to the Rose Hill Campus. I was thinking that they still could offer us on-campus housing due to the fact that so many people got accepted with housing but obviously not all of them are going to Fordham.

Does anyone know anything about off-campus housing? Even though I would do anything to get on-campus housing, I still need to keep my options open.

JCmarpw/moongirl08: Unfortunately this seems to happen every year. There are still not enough dorms at Fordham to meet the demand. My S’s friend was deferred EA and then accepted without housing while my S who lives in the same town got housing. I do think that the school gives housing first to the students it most wants to attract to the school (sorry). You should call ResLife on Monday but I would not be hopeful about them reconsidering your request for freshman housing. BUT if you should also ask them what day you can sign up for the housing wait list and call on that date right when they open in the morning so you can be one of the first ones on that list. My S’s friend was offered housing in January (although it was in a sophomore dorm, not a freshman dorm) – I think when spots open up in freshman dorms then will un-do any triples before offering spots to new residents. In my S’s friend’s case, by the time he was offered housing for the spring semester he had moved into an off campus apartment with other people he met so he never took the on campus housing. The only good news is that if you can get housing for the second semester (even if it isn’t perfect) from that time forward you will be in the same housing pool with everyone else in your class and you will be guaranteed housing for the next three years. It is a really frustrating position to be in so I’m sorry. If Fordham is your dream school, hopefully you can make things work to go there.

Off campus housing is plentiful and reasonably priced near Rose Hill. Many kids look forward to moving off campus.
Go look for Facebook, you may have to look for Fordham University Class of 2015 -

I know for Lincoln Center, late in the summer, the Commuter Students Office put togethor lists of kids looking for apartments, at least for transfer student.

How is Fordham’s FA package?

Would they accept someone without on-campus housing even if they didn’t live near Fordham University? I live nearly 300 miles away from Rose Hill so commuting it definitely not an option. And neither is paying the exorbitant price tag AND paying for an apartment.

number41:

Normally commuters are within 50 mile radius or so. If you get in and are 300 miles away, you will be offered housing.

They try and gauge yield from acceptances. Its not an exact science. But I doubt they will make you look for offcampus housing at LC or RH.

To help future applicants…
