Fordham University Core

If you are not religious at all, can you please share how you got good grades on two mandatory Theology courses?
Thank you very much.

The material you learn in Faith & Critical Reason (the intro theology class) is based mostly off of what the professor decides to focus on. My friends and I have all taken intro theology and we all had very different experiences. One thing is for sure though, none of us felt like our religious views were part of how well we did in the class. It’s less about being religious and more about the concepts of religiosity and different subtopics of religion. You definitely don’t have to be religious to get good grades in intro theology. The same goes for whichever theology elective you choose for the core after F&CR, because those usually focus on one specific religion or part of a specific religion. It’s more about understanding the history and beliefs and less about being religious yourself. A lot of people see these core classes as history and philosophy combined, as opposed to staunchly religious theology courses that give religious people an upper hand.

Thank you very much.
