Fordham University Decisions Thread

Im assuming that anyone that has heard yet will hear Monday or Tuesday. Gluck to everyone who hasn’t heard and congrats to everyone that has gotten accepted. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you all next fall!!!

I’m visiting April 20th at Rose Hill. Anyone else?

If April 20 is the Orientation weekend for accepted students you wont be alone. You will be among a LOT of people. Like 1600 students plus parents. Its a BIG DEAL. Its a great way to visit campus, meet students, professors, administrators and Fr. McShane.

Congratulations.

My daughter was ACCEPTED - Rose Hill Campus. She is THRILLED beyond words!! We haven’t received financial aid information as of yet.

Does anyone know if the Presidential Scholarships for Fordham have been awarded yet? Urgent to know!!!

Waitlisted, and I really can’t understand why.

I was deferred in December, and I couldn’t understand it then either. I have a 3.56 with a totally rigorous curriculum, a 2140, outstanding SAT II’s, great extracurriculars, great essays, and wonderful recommendations. I’ve shown interest, visited several times, and have been in touch with my admissions counselor. People from my school with less impressive stats were admitted EA (some were given 10k in merit). I’ve been accepted to some equal/higher quality schools with merit money. I really don’t get it. Oh well, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it anyway. It’s better to suffer this kind of disappointment than that kind of disappointment. I probably won’t stay on the list.

Congratulations to those accepted. Enjoy!

I’m sorry to hear that nervoussenior10…you definitely seem beyond qualified. Sometimes the admissions process is a bit sketchy. You’ll do great at any school though so good luck!

Admissions is a very complex and sometimes bizarre process. Every year at every school strange things happen. Kids get in you scratch your head and kids get waitlisted or rejected that seemed like a lock. Sometimes schools think you are headed somewhere else anyway. But you showed interest, had excellent stats and visited. Its beyond strange. Does financial picture come into play? Most schools say they are are needs blind, but frankly I am not sure that is always true. It could be demographics/geographical concerns: too many kids from your area. Harvard, Yale, Princeton and the uber elite schools frequently reject kids with 4.0 and 1600 SAT’s to pick kids with a 3.7 and 1390 SAT’s. They call it academic diversity.

My D three years ago was hosed by her top choice. It still stings. Big time. But Fordham came through and we turned the page and moved on.

If you have merit money at another school, that is very worthy and you are to be commended. Congratulations! We wish you the very best.

Hook: National Hispanic Recognition Program. Admitted to HS on merit scholarship.

Also accepted at UChicago, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Emory, Johns Hopkins, Loyola New Orleans ($21K scholarship)

^^^ congratulations CPP! What a great list of acceptances you have. Loyola New Orleans is also a fabulous school. Its a real gem not well known in the Jesuit college circles by people.

If you are asking where you should go from that list, nobody can decide that but you. FCLC is in Manhattan and its a small school in one large building. It has a strong following, particularly in drama and theatre arts. Famous actors graduated from Fordham.

If I were in your shoes, what would I do? I dunno. Hard to turn down Northwestern, UChicago and Notre Dame. But your full scholarship to Fordham is a big deal too. And Fordham is very special in its own way. Its no slacker school or “safety.” You will be very challenged in class.

Of course we want you at Fordham. But its your choice. Good luck.

I want to brag to.

Also accepted to Stanford University, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and thats all that matters lol. I’m going to fordham though, it’s almost free for me haha. I just need to know if it’s respected enough so that I can say get into harvard law school

Fordham has sent kids to Harvard Law and Yale Law, including one last year. Congrats on your wonderful list of acceptances. Fordham clearly wants you with a full ride. And I can tell you that Rose Hill is a totally fun time! Plus faculty know you and mentor you. Its New York, but its also an enclosed campus that has gothic buildings and open green lawns and large trees (and a pair of life-mated red tailed hawks who live there!) You will be challenged and meet great people. Its competitive but not cut throat. You will work hard, yes…even near perfect kids like you work hard!..and yet not overloaded to exhaustion…unless you procrastinate and get behind. Its Jesuit…and broad based. Its next to the New York Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo. Great Italian food on Arthur Ave nearby. Its culture shock coming from Southern California…I assure you…but that is also its drawing point. Change can be a good thing, you know? You will grow and learn. And you wont be alone…lots of kids from Southern California now come to Fordham.

Congrats…we hope you come.

djanis did u find out about your acceptance today?

My son was accepted at Rose Hill but the family contribution is 30k…I think too much for any school.

lino883- No, I heard about 1.5/2 weeks ago. I was just slow to make an account. I still haven’t recieved anything on FA though-I called and they said it was on the way.

I am not impressed with the aid award. Other excellent schools have been far more generous.
