<p>My son had similar #'s but I am paying full ride to Hopkins. Should have sent him to Fordham. :o)</p>

<p>Personal Statement (Personal rating out of 10): Compared myself to Telemachus from The Odyssey, talked about how I had a painting published in a museum and several galleries in my area recently, and my other artistic accomplishments, and finished it by saying that like Telemachus I’m great but still have time to mature, and hopefully Fordham could help me mature and develop like Athena did for Telemachus. (8/10)
Hooks: Well… Not really about me, but one of the admissions counselors is from my city and may have went to my high school, which I’m sure didn’t hurt my chances.
Anti-Hook: I got suspended from school once last year for missing a detention… I was so nervous about putting that on there, haha.</p>

<p>I am so happy! Fordham was my #1 choice and the first school I applied to. It was also the last I heard back from. I’m just glad the wait’s over, that was so stressful…</p>

<p>Hooks: not that I know of… I attended an open house on campus in october alone and was able to talk one on one to a few admissions officers which I’m sure didn’t hurt my chances</p>

<p>Anti-Hook: my sophomore year grades destroyed my GPA and actually have gotten me deferred/rejected at a few other schools. Also, having high test scores but grades that are less so seem to scream lazy to some people…
Oh by the way, I am so excited! I’m applying to a couple other schools but right now Fordham is my first choice besides my state school (and thats only because I can pay for it…)</p>

<p>yeah i got a dean’s scholarship, but I think that is just preliminary. i’m wondering about the honors program…:&lt;/p>

<p>Honors program at Fordham is a major committment lasting 4 years. Its incredibly difficult and there is a lot of grade deflation. Its also limited to about 25 kids per class. On the other hand, there are Honors Majors in several schools and they allow you an Honors Certificate at Graduation and your transcript is duly marked. They are also by invitation, usually during Sophomore year after Fordham sees how you are doing. They allow for more flexibility in picking majors, and maybe a double major and minor. In my opinion, they are better. </p>

<p>The Freshman Honors Program is prestigious. But it is very controlled on what you can do and can’t do and its an incredible amount of work (and stress.) If you get invited by Fordham into that program, good for you. If not, don’t sweat it. You may well be invited to another Honors program following freshmen year if you rise to the top of the class. Fordham ranks its students the old fashioned way and tries to direct them to their strengths.</p>
