@spldnlvr Well to be honest, the moment I found out I was deferred I started thinking about other colleges. Not because I lost hope of getting into Fordham but because it hit me that I might not get in after all so I have to have other options. I think you should deal with it by exploring other colleges you’d be excited to attend and apply there. Make sure you apply to several matches/safeties you really like, not just reaches. I was accepted to The New School - Lang today so I wasn’t totally devastated… oh and I also realized that there are great colleges besides Fordham and great cities besides NY.

@JackRedBlueGreen , keep your chin up, you will land somewhere and do great.

@saus2019 Thanks for the advice! I have already applied to safety schools, etc. and I have already been accepted into my back up. Also, I’m hoping/planning on getting into Pace, and so if I don’t get into any other of my “top 3” (Fordham was 1 in the 3) schools, I’ll go to Pace and transfer to Fordham in my sophomore year. Congrats on Lang! I’m considering applying there also. Thanks again for the advice!

Could someone have been deferred due to what campus they chose? I applied to LC, but on the Common App, I selected the button that said something like “Would you accept RH if offered admission”… Just curious.

Can someone explain where to access scholarship information from Fordham? I was emailed my acceptance by them in late November, where they designated me as a “top applicant”–and there was no mention of merit aid in my acceptance today, which I find fairly surprising. I filed the CSS by December 8th too, so I don’t know what happened… I was really hoping for a scholarship from them and I’m worried that I didn’t get anything.

Got deferred from Gabelli at Lincoln Center…I’m so bummed out since Fordham was my first choice since I know for a fact I won’t be getting into Stern at NYU and since Pace is my safety but my heart isn’t in it. Now I’m overly stressed since I need to do amazing in my mid year grades to hopefully get accepted by April 1st…

But does anyone know if I can be accepted into the regular Fordham College at Lincoln Center rather than Gabelli since I know you can minor in business and not be apart of the business school. I just hope I get in because as of now I’m not looking forward to college at all!!!

I got deferred! I have no idea why!

Could I have been rejected because I applied to the Gabelli School of Business at both Lincoln Center and Rose Hill, rather than the regular school?

Much thanks to anyone’s input!

Accepted at Rose Hill!

Congratulations @fazeeeeeel and all other accepted students.

@heartinnyc As deferred applicants, we have a pretty decent chance of getting in under RD! I’m in the same boat as you with Pace…That’s why if I literally do not get in anywhere else, I’ll go to Pace for a year and transfer out to Fordham. On the bright side, we were not rejected, and we have to remember that. There’s a reason they kept us

@risingsenior7 I think you should go on the online applicant portal, and see if they’ve posted any new updates on there…
I’m fairly certain you’ve gotten a scholarship and just don’t know it :)

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! To those who were deferred, and Fordham is your #1, see what you can do to improve your chances in the RD pool. If you think your test scores are “meh” then retake and resend. If the SAT kills you, do the ACT. My daughter found the ACT to be a much kinder test than the SAT and I believe that helped A LOT since her score was on the higher end than her SAT (which was on the lower end-she entered Fall 13). For those of you accepted with housing, rejoice. Housing is at a premium even with the new dorms. I understand the new freshman dorm at LC is nice. My daughter has seen Loyola at RH and it is beautiful.

Good luck to everyone.

@spldnlvr yeah that’s true. But same, if I don’t get in anywhere else than I’ll go to Pace for a year then transfer to Fordham but best of luck to you!!

has anyone else not heard back yet??

For those asking where to see scholarship information: Go to your portal, click on the status update. In your “Acceptance Letter” there will be a paragraph about scholarship. My D received the Dean’s Scholarship ($15K/yr) and that’s where we read about it. But, we also received a letter from Financial Aid Office asking for a supplement. So, the January 31st date that was mentioned in the early acceptance email (in November) still holds. I don’t think they have processed FA yet. CSS Profile was in prior to Nov 1st. Hope that helps.

admissions is as quirky as always…weird stuff…people with scores that are modest get in and people with decent scores get deferred. Who knows why?

However, you have to regroup if you are deferred. First, if you have HIGHER grades this semester and/or you retook the SAT and got higher scores, then SUBMIT THEM IMMEDIATELY and also send in a well crafted original personal letter telling them Fordham is #`1 (if that is true…dont be disingenuous).

Scholarships are also quirky. Been there, done that. We got ZIPPO. ZERO. But got a fairly generous grant in aid…which is the same thing without the prestige…but also requires you file FAFSA every year. UGH. And people we knew with lower scores got scholarship money. Infuriating. Its Fordham.

Tuition has risen over 10k per year in 5 years…meaning its now over 40k more expensive for four years. So their financial aid has stepped up a bit, their endowment is doing very well, their capital campaign closed and thus they have more money to give out. So dont fret…scholarships are sometimes offered with admission notices and sometimes offered a bit later. Sometimes very late…like April. If you NEED money make certain you file both the CSS and the FAFSA.

Fordham’s overall median score for SAT is 1265. If you are below that, but very close, dont give up. If you are substantially below that (like 100 pts), then I strongly suggest you focus on Plan B and move along. Sorry, thats just the facts and reality.

if you have scores at median level and a high gpa, with stellar EC’s, and still got deferred…hang in there…EA is more quirky than RD and more competitive. Fordham is a hot school. But you might well be admitted RD. Submit all your recent grades and scores and anything else you have to embellish your application.

Gabelli LC is a VERY SMALL cohort. Gabelli RH is much larger. Do the math. :-)

My heart goes out to disappointed kids. We were there (at another school) in 2006-07. Lots and lots of tears. We dried our tears, and went to work. Immediately. Using the Common App we applied RD to a lot of schools…and some of them came in immediately with MONEY. Good schools. Then Fordham came in for us RD in March (likely letter ) and we headed to RH for the accepted student weekend orientation…loved it, met Fr. McShane and talked to him at length. He is a good closer!

If you are committed to Catholic Jesuit education, and Fordham isnt going to accept you, then look at the next tier of Jesuit schools, SLU, Loyola, SFU, etc. Loyola New Orleans is a wonderful school on a gorgeous campus in uptown New Orleans, adjacent to Tulane University. It has a stellar faculty.

Good luck to all. Merry Christmas. Welcome to Fordham if you got in!

Accepted with 15K Dean’s Scholarship and 4 year housing at Rose Hill.

International Applicant from India.

Did anyone else get rejected? It seems like everyone either got accepted or deferred…I hope I’m not the only one who got rejected!

Jack: Its normal for those rejected to not post a darn thing. You are not alone. Dont waste your precious time and energy here. Instead, move towards something positive and start by making a list of your Plan B schools and apply to them using the common app. Like right away. For you its over at Fordham. Its sad, but best for you in all respects to focus on your future.

Where else did you apply? Going to add more schools in the RD pool (highly recommended)?

@phoenixmomof2 I wonder if everyone that has received scholarship information already turned in the CSS profile earlier. I wasn’t notified about any merit aid yet or in my acceptance letter, but maybe that’s because we didn’t get the profile in until December. You’ve given me some more hope!
