Fordham, Villanova, Penn State UPark or Drexel Honors?

I want to go to business school and then go to a law school. So far I have been accepted to these four schools.

I'm really only debating between Fordham and Villanova and cannot seem to choose. I know that Villanova has a better business school and Fordham has a better law school but overrall they seem to be evenly rated. Which school is better?

With the similiar rankings of the two, it is best to focus on location. For a business track, nothing can beat NYC for internships and other opportunities. Villanova im sure is a great school, but as far as location it doesnt come close to fordham. (From what I hear the fordham alumni network in NYC is rediculous and internships are everywhere).

hey, im in a similar position. im choosing from villanova, fordham, penn state and northeastern. Right now im thinking Villanova because they have been ranked 7th in the nation and companies will be impressed by that. When i asked people, they think Fordham as a joke school and that is why I am not too convinced by Fordham (this could be completely wrong, im only saying this based upon what i heard from a few people) I also need help in deciding! good luck
my thread also might have some answers for u in the future: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/1109120-better-school.html#post12238266

Villanova is the higher ranked school of the two, but choosing a school should be about more than a ranking list. If it is at all possible, go back and re-visit the couple of schools you are considering. Look at the location, the programs, the other students, etc. and see where you feel most comfortable. Often that second look makes the decision much easier. Also if you got more merit aid from one school than another, that could be important as well. Congratulations, you have great choices. Good luck.

Fordham is by far a “joke school”. Are you kidding me. My nephew has recieved a great education has worked hard and has worked two fabulous internships at NBC. Be smart and think about what you say…but good luck in your choices.

momofnj - I totally agree. My S is working hard and getting a great education at Fordham. It is a very well respected school. In addition, I’ve said it before but I really believe that fit, not ranking, is the best way to choose a school.

The Fordham network amazes me. i don’t know anything about Villanova, but it is a great school too. Those of you with these choices really can’t go wrong regardless of what you pick. Congratulations!

I too am considering Villanova and Fordham. I got 24k/yr merit for fordham so Im leaning that way right now, but Villanova posts scholarship info and awards tomorrow.

Villanova is definitely the more selective school, and it’s business undergrad is HIGHLY regarded as well as it’s engineering programs. It’s about a 25 minute train ride, with a stop right on campus, from center-city philly so I don’t think finding internships are going to be all that difficult.

As for as Law school goes, Fordham beats Villanova here by a wide margin.

This year, Nova seems to be much more difficult to get into than Fordham (judging purely on anecdotal evidence), but Fordham isn’t easy to get into anymore, either- congratulations! Do you like a Catholic environment? If so, Villanova has that feeling much more than Fordham does; Fordham is also more diverse and will provide more internship opportunities. What you’re planning on majoring in also plays a role, of course.

How about choosing between Fordham and BC, Fordham gave my son a very nice package and although we will find out about money tomorrow, BC is not know for giving out much money. My son is in the CAS but wants to go to law school. I should also mention that McGill is also a solid choice.

thanks for your responses everyone.
Now my choice is going to be even harder because i got into George Washington. I narrowed it down to Fordham, Villanova and George Washington, but prefer Fordham and GW’s urban campuses. I will probably see which school offers the most compelling merit aid package since my family income is very very high six figures and wont qualify for financial aid.

BC came in third when my S was choosing last year! No, he did not get any merit $ but it was not expected given how few scholarships they award. It is my understanding though that BC does try to meet full need. While that meant nothing for us, it wasn’t the deciding factor either. As my S put it to me, BC is a really nice school but it’s in the wrong city! He chose Fordham BEFORE we found out about the nice merit package they put together for him! Good luck with your S’s choices, he can’t go wrong! Visit if you can and let him pick the school that feels right!

If $ is not an issue, then I recommend you choose the school that you feel is the best fit. I would eliminate Villanova given you prefer the urban locations of Fordham and GW and try to attend the Spring Preview/accepted students days or at least visit both again before making your decision. Fordham gave my S a nice merit package but it wasn’t by any means the least expensive school he could have gone to…two schools would have been less. One cost half of what we pay for Fordham and the other would have been even less then that! And I can tell you that I have absolutely no problem paying more for my S to be at Fordham. He is in the right place for him and that is worth everything to me! Your parents probably feel the same way! Good luck! :)

thanks for the advice, things got more complicated today as Carnegie Mellon was added to the mix, as predicted BC didn’t offer anything and CM isn’t up yet, we will travel to Fordham in a few weeks but NY is not on his list of desired locations, Georgetown was number one but he didnt get that, we will be doing a lot of traveling over the next few weeks and he will decide what feels best, good luck and thanks
