My son has been admitted to Fordham and Uconn and is trying to choose between the two. he received some scholarship money from Fordham, but we are in state at Uconn, so it is still much more to go to Fordham. He is undecided on his major, but it will be in the liberal arts I'm sure. We went to the admitted students day at Fordham today and we were both impressed. He wants to fo back to Uconn to look again as well. The schools are so different, any thoughts?

You are right, the schools are VERY different in almost every respect (urban/more rural location, mid-size/large university, Jesuit (with a large core curriculum)/public, not so hot sports/bigger sports) to name a few things. In the end your S has to choose the school that best suits him, and to the extent is is an issue, your family’s financial situation the best.

I’m a student at Fordham and some of the big positives of the school include its location and easy access to Manhattan (but I’m a city lover), the smaller classes where all of my profs. know who I am, and the great friends I’ve made. Fordham really fits what I wanted in a college (and I got enough merit aid to make Fordham do-able) – but I have a cousin who graduated from UConn a few years ago and loved it there as well. Really, your S has two nice choices.
