Hi I was accepted to villanova and fordham business schools and like both schools a lot. Which is higher ranked for business and better for getting a job? Which has stronger name power and best education?! They cost is almost equivalent with fordham giving me a slightly better deal. Need help!

I have always been told it’s all what you put into the school and not the name of the school. That being said I wish I were you for having such great opps. I think either school on a resume will be great. They are both next to great cities so intern jobs will be equal (assumed).

I applied to Villanova and still wait for the acceptance. Which ever you go with it will work out. All the very best to you, I don’t see a bad choice either way!! What does your heart say?

Fordham is higher rated. I work in NYC, where Fordham is highly regarded, Villanova not so well known.

Villanova is highly “rated” but they are both great schools with great connections.

I would base your decision off where you ultimately want to live and work. Philly or NYC.

Villanova is the Higher Rated by far. #7 on BusinessWeek’s list. And also actually has better NY connections than Fordham.

GD, I disagree with you (and I actually work in fiancial services in NY) – Fordham is much more recognized.

Any school can find a list that suits them. Bloombergs rate Emorys business school, UVA above Wharton. Go figure. No credibility to me. Stick with US News listing.

Well kayf, regardless of your opinion on the credibility of the BusinessWeek listing, Fordham doesn’t even make the list. That speaks volumes.

[Best Undergraduate Business Schools 2011 - Businessweek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

But in truth, I applied to Fordham as well, you can’t go wrong with either. As someone previously said, it is what you make of it. You can create a Big Fish in a small pond situation if you really want it. Just get used to police sirens ;).

The BW list is a joke. Its got Brigham Young ranked 11. Above NYU, BC and UT. It appears to be random.

Do you honestly think any rationale person puts Villanova above MIT, Berkeley, NYU, BC, UT? Really?

I don’t want to start an argument, I don’t have the energy at the moment, but yes I do.

Lol… I think someone needs a name change: GoldenDumber. =P

Any list that puts Villanova over NYU, MIT, and UCB is junk, as far as getting a job is concerned.

Business Week is a very poor ranking system. Pay ZERO attention to it.

Fordham Gabelli School is awesome. A NEW BUILDING FUNDED BY MARIO GABELLI. Get it?

Villanova is a superb school…for engineers. Maybe some liberal arts. Business is fine…

but Fordham’s reputation in NYC is stellar, they kids get wonderful internships, and Fordham has a campus in Beijing!

For Business, I would strongly recommend Fordham.

I am a CPA and can tell you that all of the schools you are looking at are well respected in the NYC business community. I agree that Fordham has an advantage if you want a NYC internship during the school year, but a majority of business students pursue their important internships over the summer so you should be able to do that if you attend any of the schools.

If you want to do an internship during the school year, Fordham has access to NYC, Villanova has access to Philadelphia, and Fairfield has access to a number of Fortune 500 companies headquartered in CT. SUNY-B may be tougher.

Think about what you want…NYC? suburbs? Big East Basketball? What about the price difference?

^^^ lots of professionals on these boards, Happy! LOL. With lots of “connections”. :-)

^^^??? Not sure of your point ???Of course I understand that I am just one opinion no more or less valid than any others (and even so, I choose not opine on which school is “better” because IMO “better” for one person may not be “better” for another). Since the question was very specific to a business program, I thought I would share my background with the OP.

In general you and I are both big supporters of Fordham and I’m not sure why you feel a need to put a post in with the sole purpose of making a snide comment towards me. I will not respond further on this thread.

Happy, I think Soverign meant, good for Fordham grads that there are lots of people who work in NY and respect Fordham. I dont think he meant to be snide.

Golden Domer, when you said to get used to police sirens, you meant in Philly, right?

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and I feel much safer with my child riding the subway in New York City than I would in Philly.

These “My school is better than yours” can be silly. If you want to work in NYC, Fordham is better than Villanove. Work in Philly? Villanova is better than Fordham.
Anywere else? class rank and connections mean more than school name.

Both are good schools that are not the very top bussiness programs and you can do well in either.

Actually GoldenDomer, while your pride in VU’s program is well placed, your statement that Fordham didn’t even make the Businessweek 2011 list is not accurate. It is on page 2, at #52 (perhaps you could not get past page one?). Given that at the time of the survey, FU’s Gabelli school did not have it’s own dedicated facility as did VU, that was a big drawback. That will change when the new building is complete. Just as Fordham has had an explosive climb in the USN&WR rankings (from 84th to 53rd in a few years…in the most competative National Research category…and not one of the 5 Regional categories), I am sure the business school will also climb. But kudos to Villanova for having such a strong program.

Who knows? perhaps in a year or two both Fordham and Villanova will be on the first page of Businessweek ratings…and you won’t have to look past page one!

UPDATE: BW is pretty wild and schools seem to jump up and down each year, so I would agree it is not very reliable.

FWIW For 2012, it has undergraduate rankings for Villanova at 13 (down 6 spots from 2011) which is still a great ranking, and Fordham at 49 (up 4 from 2011).
