Fordham vs. Villanova

I am strongly considering both. Any thoughts/suggestions?

What are you interested in? What kind of atmosphere and education do you want?

I want a well rounded education with lots of liberal arts courses (which both have a core like that) but I want to have a strong business curriculum (finance in particular). I love New York City but Villanova's campus is beautiful. I can really see myself loving both atmospheres. I hear fordham has great internship opps but villanova has a better business school. Oh and my stats are 3.8 uw GPA and 1320 SAT with lots of community service and clubs, including president of the history club.

I'm fairly familiar with both schools, so I'll say this:

(1) Visit both of them if possible.

(2) They're both Catholic schools, yes, but Fordham is Jesuit. Take from that what you will, but I know from friends that Villanova's administration is serious about certain policies.

(3) They are in very different locations. Fordham is in the Bronx, but it's a decent area, and they're right near the NY Botanical Garden. Their campus is great, but do bear in mind that you're in NYC. Everything will be more expensive off campus, and housing will never be cheap. This is, however, great for internship opportunities, depending on your field.

Villanova is in a much less crowded setting (not a major city) and also has a great campus.

(4) Academically, they aren't too far apart, but Fordham certainly has the better academic reputation in some parts.

(5) The student body is roughly the same size at both schools, but you'll find different crowds. Villanova is much more "traditional" in its activities because its of its location; conversely, you may find a bit more of a pre-professional atmosphere at Fordham.

(6) Check out the Gen Ed requirements at both schools. I have a friend currently at Villanova who has had some headaches regarding their general education program. This isn't a hit on Villanova necessarily, but be sure you understand and are comfortable with the core requirements at your prospective institution.

I know several people who have attended both schools over the years. On the whole, they're both terrific institutions that have excellent reputations in the Northeast and beyond. You really cannot go wrong.

Good luck.

Villanova is known particularly for its accouting program. Both colleges will provide you with a liberal arts curriculum. I feel Fordham would be a better fit for you because you're interested in finance. Look into both colleges through their websites and consider all factors since you don't seem to prefer one college over the other.
