Fordham Your Choice application email

My son got a random email from Fordham with a free application. It started out as

"As one of the nation’s top students, you’ve caught our attention here at Fordham University!

That's why I've selected you to apply to Fordham with several exclusive advantages. Apply today with your special Your Choice status to receive "

Did anyone else get and does this increase likelihood of merit scholarships

...

Got this, and many others starting to come in with offers of no application fee, no essays, and quick decision. Not sure about merit scholarships at Fordham. I only recall one of these letters(Marquette?) that mentioned consideration for scholarships came with the “special application”. It’s free, and if your son wants to go there, why not apply and see what he gets?

Planning to. I just looked on the common app and know additional essays so no harm in seeing what happens

Make sure you read this so you won’t make a mistake and end up paying

I got one too and it said it would waive the app fee

My son got a lot of these last year. Free apps are great, but keep in mind that it will not be free to submit Test Scores, DE transcripts, etc. so it is smart to make sure that your child is really interested in applying to those schools. We went through all the freebies and selected 3 that he would actually want to attend and just did those.

Besides the $11 to send the scores what other costs am I missing? Not sure what DE transcripts are so might be missing something.

I just figure that the $11 is worth it for a chance at a scholarship for someone with strong scores if it is a possible destination. Interested in others views

We got about 20 “free application” offers. You will see them trickle in over the next few months. At first we planned to do them all, but they just kept coming! LOL!!
DS applied to a total of 9 schools so when you add in the application fees, transcript costs, and test score costs it was about $500 when we were all said and done. He had Dual Enrollment (local college) classes so we had to send those transcripts separately. He took both SAT and ACT and wanted to submit both. You get a certain number of free scores but we exceeded that. We also paid to submit AP scores. It is not a lot of money for just one application, but it adds up:)
He did get accepted at Fordham with some generous aid/scholarships, but the lure of our big State Flagship football program was very powerful:)

Fordham is a CSS profile school , which you will have to file for financial iAd consideration. Filing the profile cost $ 25 for the first school and $16 for each additional school.

Do you need to file for aid to get merit? Doubtful we would get any financial aid other than merit. Also not planning to send both act scores as SAT we’re better and wont send AP scores until after accepted

I received these little prerogatives from at least 25 schools. The only ones I filled out were Fordham and Tulane, and they took little to no time, and they’re both excellent schools. :)
