Fordham

Hi

I’m a junior looking to apply to Fordham next year. I have a 4.07 GPA and a 32 ACT, along with pretty good EC’s and all that other stuff.

Can anyone tell me if Fordham is generous in terms of money for students and how much I could expect to get from this school?

The Chances thread is for chances. Use the Net Price Calculator and other information on Fordham’s website to get an idea about how much money the school might give you.

@BelknapPoint thank you

@shrimpyshrimper They have a National Merit Scholarship. It is not guaranteed, but if you make finalist you have a shot at getting full tuition. Even with that, remember that room and board can run well over 15k. So for some once travel expenses are added and the cost of surviving NYC, the cost can equal an affordable state school.

Fordham is not generous with need-based aid. They don’t claim to meet full need . . . and they don’t. My student applied on the off-chance that he might get their Presidential full ride scholarship. He didn’t, and that was the end of that. The need-based award he eventually received was laughable.

I received a package that made Fordham affordable for me. I have a 3.96 W GPA and 2090 SAT and good extracurriculars and AP scores. I am also a National Merit Commended Scholar. Because of these things and some need, I was able to receive a package of $24,000/yr. in financial/merit based scholarships as well as the 5500 unsubsidized loan. Apply and see what happens, you never know what they’ll offer!

For reference, my D had a 2330 SAT and a 94.5 GPA and received a 30k scholarship per year for four years.

D2 received the full tuition Semifinalist Scholarship. After our initial excitement, we took a hard look at the net COA.

The scholarship, as we understood it, does not include fees. It’s full tuition only. We added 3-5% to Fees and to Room & Board, for each year of attendance. We added in estimated plane tickets.

Our estimated Four Year Net COA was surprisingly high. Filling out a detailed spreadsheet, laying out the estimated net cost for four years, made it much easier to compare offers.

Good luck! Both D & I had a huge crush on Fordham.

To clarify my earlier post: if you’re looking for need-based aid, Fordham is not the school to look at. If you’re looking for merit aid only, then yes, Fordham tends to be quite generous . . . so long as you have the remaining $30k or so that you’re going to need in order to pay the bills every year!
