Fordham's National Merit Package

I found out last week that I am a National Merit Finalist. Does anyone have any experience with the NMF package at Fordham?

I am a National Merit Finalist and I have looked at the Fordham website. Finalist are eligible for a full tuition scholarship, but my question is: is this competitive or do all Finalists receive one?

I don’t know, so I can’t be helpful on that question. But congratulations to you.

On the other hand, it means your stats are through the roof and you will get a bunch of money from Fordham in one form or another. I also presume you submitted a FAFSA for financial aid.

When you get your final offer from Fordham, compare it to the other schools where you have been admitted and see which one best suits you.

Where else did you get in/apply? SAT scores?

My SAT is 2300.

I did fill out the FAFSA but since my family is I guess middle class I don’t think we will get any money from Financial Aid. We live in a high cost area, though, so it makes paying for college hard at 50k.

Okay. Thanks for that. First of all, congratulations on your SAT score and Fordham admission. Second, relax. You will be fine. Third, don’t presume anything. While middle class often gets burned (as I posted in a lengthy thread earlier), you are in the enviable position of being in clear scholarship category and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. (That is up to Fordham, but I am sure you will be okay.) They are going to want you bigtime. Its a great school and has tremendous opportunities and a fabulous faculty. And plenty of really smart kids who go there.

I understand what you are saying. You may be asked to assume some of the cost, with “skin in the game” so to speak, through some student loans. That is if you dont get the full ride on tuition.

Just hang in there and be patient. I am sure the college board notifies all the schools where you sent your scores to that you are NMF.

Are you admitted to FCLC or FCRH?

I applied to Rose Hill, but I haven’t been accepted yet. I am waiting for April 1, just like everyone else : )
