Do they help with admission to SFS?

I spent a semester (4 months or so) studying in Switzerland during 10th grade, and I interned in Washington, D.C. for a Congressman this past summer and will be returning this upcoming summer?

Do those two things help with admissions to SFS? I would think so because of the foreign/international party and the political part, but I am not sure.

I was wondering this too. I'm going to be a Rotary Youth Exchange student for my entire junior year in Germany. I won't be able to get quite as many APs in, and that worries me. I'm going to try to take some online APs though.

Would a foreign exchange and fluency in another language help to offset not quite as rigorous of a courseload? I want to go into International Relations or International Business. I really want to get into Georgetown, but I'm really worried.

I think that it definitely does help, although SFS, and every other school looks at the whole picture. Going abroad/interning for your congressmen will look good, but it's not a hook. So go abroad because you want to, not because SFS, or any other school, wants you to .

I agree. I did my internship and foreign exchange program last year, before college was even on my mind.

scarolina-
That's so cool that you're going to Germany! I'm so jealous! I applied for a scholarship to go there for a year (I'm a senior, so I'll be taking a year off if I get it). Do you know where you're going in Germany yet?

Although I have no idea what the adcoms would think, I personally think that an exchange would be SO much more valuable than taking more aps at home. I mean, you'll be able to see if you REALLY are interested in international relations, which some people don't realize until much later, you'll be fluent in another language, you'll really broaden horizons and you'll learn so much! I think Georgetown would value that. Plus not everyone would just leave all their friends for a year, that takes courage. Don't worry, I've talked to a TON of people who have done year-long exchanges and every single person said to do it, because it was the best time of their life!

Back when I started thinking about exchange, Georgetown wasn't even a thought...I really WANT to do this so it's definitely for the right reasons :)

I don't know where I'm going in Germany yet, but I should find out in March! You're not going through Congress-Bundestag by chance are you? I almost applied for that, but I didn't...and I can't remember why now that I think about it.

That's great, I'm glad you're going for the right reasons!

Yeah, I did apply to the Congress-Bundestag scholarship. I live in WA state and the organization I applied to, asse, is taking longer than the other organizations, which have already picked their semi-finalists, and I'm still waiting to see! I will probably be finding out in March as well. Hope we are celebrating together!!!
