WEll this topic to me is actaully real important.
I will be applying to many colleges that require 3 years of a foreign lang such as stanford.
my frosh year i took french 2 and in my soph year i took french 3. I took french 1 in my middle school and its not on my transcript.
My question is that does getting to ther 3rd level of a foreign lang count as 3 years or would i only have 2 years.
I am currently a senior right now
I am absolutly horrid at 2nd lang. Like i am talking really really bad. So if possible i would like to avoid a year of it or else its really going to take a toll on me.

The idea is to reach a certain level more than it is to take a fixed number of years to get there.

thanks for the answer. Anyone else have any input?
I think what token adult says makes a lot of sense and makes me feel a lot better.
Any specific college that looks for 3 years and don't care for level.
Btw for many of these colleges, i will be appyling to their college of enigineering so maybe foreign lang requirements might not be as tough.

please anyone else?
I need to make a decision by tmmrw

Applicants to Stanford typically take the toughest curriculum available, not the bare minimum. You will not measure up to the other candidates with only two years of FL on your transcript.

yeah, i understand that. I take a large amount of ap's (10+) etc and have taken other hard classes etc. Just wondering if one little weakness on my class schedule culd hurt me much, or is it really not that big of a deal?

Another Moderator saying that it is the level that counts, not the number of years on your HS transcript.
