Foreign Lang requirement

Do Engineering students have to take FL? Son will go into Computer Engineering and so far has reached Spanish Level 3. He would like to start a new language if it is compulsory. Any Idea?

Engineering majors are exempt from the foreign language requirement except for those majoring in computer science (CSCI) alone—CECS would not have to take any classes.

Lol on my AP French Language exam monday I wrote about how I picked USC bc it didn’t have a foreign language requirement hah

Actually taking Arabic from scratch might not be such a bad idea. I read that the professor is a blast!

I will have the utmost respect for your son if he takes Arabic.

MM, you should meet my son :)

He took some private Arabic lessons in London but then the teacher had to restart at her school. He had enjoyed it.

He tells me he wants to learn at least 5 languages by the time he is 25!

Anyone know more about USC’s Arabic program? I’m interested.

I always find it fascinating when I see other non-Arabs genuinely interested in learning Arabic. I’m going to try to take Arabic classes at USC if I can, as it’s my mother tongue but I can’t speak it very well.

It is a beautiful and simple language. MM, they might put in level II then.

One kid I know got her foreign language requirement satisfied by taking 2 6-week summer courses in German at public U & then took 3rd semester German at USC to finish up her requirement.

I admire folks who are good at languages, especially those that require learning hierglyphics, caligraphy, tones, and romanization. Folks I’ve spoken to have found Mandarin very challenging for that reason.

Mandarin is one of the most difficult…my younger son took it since primary until we moved to London.
