foreign lang. requirements question

On assist.org, for the American Lit. & Culture major, it says I need "4th semester of one foreign language OR, 2nd semester of one foreign language and and two additional courses in foreign language or foreign literature in translation".

Can someone break that down for me in CC terms, I'm a little confused. Does that mean I could take, Spanish 1 and 2, and then 2 classes in some kind of foreign lit classes? Is that right or am I reading it wrong? I just dont understand the "4th semester" and "2nd semester" terminology. Thanks!

Hey there! I applied as this major too. It means to take Spanish 101 then Spanish 102 then two additional courses in foreign literature or literature in translation classes which include …well it depends which CC you attend. But I took Bible as Literature and am taking a Humanities course from another CC. So basically you have the option of taking Spanish 101, 102, 201,202 (meaning 4 semesters of one foreign language ) or Spanish 101 102 and then Bible, maybe World Literature. Does that make sense?

@flowerchild747 That makes perfect sense, thanks! It’s what I figured, just needed to verify. So it looks like I’m going to switch over to Comparative Lit. as my major instead, since it doesn’t require those additional 2 foreign courses, and better odds of transferring to UCLA, but thanks for verifying this for me.

;) Smart choice. I wish you the best!

Thanks, also figure I could just switch over to English major at some point when I get into UCLA. I know it’s impacted, but if I just take the English reqs once in I figure I could approach the English dept. and request the move. Think it would work?

I think it might work. I mean they practically have the same requirements. I know someone who switched from a Psychology major to a Human Biology major… so I don’t think your request is too outlandish.
