I pretty much hate math and foreign language so how can I best deal with Cornell's subject requirements? Are there any easy spanish/math classes? Can you use "the art of secret writing" for the math requirement as a freshman and if so how hard is it?

Bump!!! Please help me out!

Do College Scholar if you’re in Arts. That’s what I’m trying to do.

Otherwise, I have no clue how to get around foreign language. You can do math pass/fail and take some BS math class like Math and Politics.

What is college scholar and how do you get into it?

Oh wait, are you already a freshman?

No I am a senior but I got in ED

^
Then start planning for College Scholar. Basically, you don’t have distribution requirements but have to do a research project.

Ok so how do I plan for this? Can you send me some more information about this and is it worth it?

Idk if this is true, but I have heard that many grad schools don’t accept the College Scholar as a major.

cellucch you can’t really get around the foreign language requirement, but I am pretty sure that you can take the language class pass/fail. For math, I would recommend taking a statistics class. They aren’t that hard and you learn pretty important stuff.

You can’t take the language pass/fail or at any other college and transfer it in so you should just get it out of the way as soon as possible. For the math you can take stats or The Art of Secret Writing.

How many years of foreign language will I have to struggle through and what are the easiest spanish classes? This being said, I really hate language but I am ok at it I took it through high school and got a 4 on the AP spanish exam. I just think it is super boring.

I think with a 4 or 5 on the AP test you take the CASE placement test during orientation week and can place out of all but one Spanish class. My son (Arts & Sciences) took his Spanish class 1st semester freshman year and is done with it :)

Celluch, you don’t have to worry about applying until second semester freshman year. Just think of a cool research idea-- it has to be something you can’t do within the major itself. That means either go super-specific or interdisciplinary in an unconventional manner.

Chelsea, that may be true, but College Scholar doesn’t prevent you from doing a major. It can count as your major if you want, but you could also just major or double major and still get the distinction.
