Foreign Language class, Start freshman year in 2 weeks

I am starting school in just under 2 weeks, and now I'm wondering about some of my classes. I'm currently scheduled for spanish IV but I haven't taken spanish since junior year, and really struggle/don't like it. I'm wondering if it would be ok for my requirement and in general if I drop this spanish class, and somewhere down the line I just take an Italian or French I class. If it means anything, I am starting off college with 10 credits in addition to a 4 on my AP Psych exam for which I will possibly get more credit.

Help!

I would stick with it. Your situation is not a new one, the language courses have a good 3-4 weeks of built in review of previous course material.

I’d have to disagree. I took five years of spanish in High School, which ended my junior year, and i didn’ take it senior year, mainly because I hated it. When I got to college I started with German, even though I would have started at level IV spanish in college. I made the switch when I got to college because I struggled in spanish, barely getting by with a C each year.

Just realize that a level IV spanish class is going to get pretty in depth, and if you don’t like it now, chances are you will like it even less.

Now, if you plan on using it career wise, I would stick with it. You might end upi fluent by the time you graduate. But if you are looking to branch out just to fill the requirement, I would recommend doing so.

Did you have to take a Spanish language placement test? If yes, then I think you’ll be fine as long as your score on the placement test qualified you in Spanish IV.

IMO Spanish is the easiest foreign language to learn, and if you struggled in high school in Spanish then starting a new language like Italian or French is likely to be more challenging than stickeing to the language that you have a good foundation in.
