Foreign Language classes

Hello,

I was wondering how UCLA classes are for the foreign languages?
Are they really hard if one hasn't had any experience in it?

I'm considering Japanese or Classical Latin.

Second question.. how hard/useful is classical latin?

thanks

And how is Chinese??

I took both Japanese and Chinese.

I think both are excellent. My experience with the Japanese language education was really quite good. It prepared me at least as well as my friends at other UCs and other top schools.

Chinese, unfortunately, was only for a quarter. But it was good.

And how is Korean??

Wikipedia article on korean:

"The most useless language on earth, possibly in the universe."

~hope this helps!

Same department as Japanese and Chinese, so I'd be willing to bet it's really good.

shake my hand

SHAKE MY HAND NOW

i love you UCLAri <3

you complete me

Thanks UCLAri for your help!

Seriously though guys, if you're worried about the classes, I wouldn't worry too much. Pick the language you're the most interested in, and go to the first few classes. If it sounds just awful, then go to another class instead.

so if i took 3 years of french in hs and i want to take another lang at ucla like spanish or chinese, would it be hard? are the classes for people who have never taken that lang before and want to learn a new lang?

UCLA offers language instruction for beginners, of course. That's why they call it "Chinese 1."

UCLAri, what languages are you taking? or did you take? And what nationality are you?

I took Japanese (minored in it, actually.) I also took Mandarin for a bit.

I'm American.
