Foreign Language Classes

I am worried about how my foreign language will look on my transcripts. I took Chinese Mandarin at my high school for a year and a half but dropped a few weeks into the second semester of my sophomore year since we weren’t learning anything and the teacher would harass the students. My schools ended the Chinese program at the end of the school year. After I dropped, I took Mandarin at the local community college for a semester. I planned to take it for another semester during the spring of my junior year, however, the course was canceled on our first day of class. I am now going to be taking Mandarin online through BYU this fall. Is my jumping around going to look bad on applications or affect the admissions process at all?

What will be the highest level (equivalent) that you will complete?

I will be finishing College level Mandarin 2, which is equivalent to high school Mandarin 3 & 4

Do you mean equivalent to high school 3rd and 4th year or 3rd and 4th semester?

The most selective colleges usually prefer to see foreign language up to the equivalent of high school 4th year; other colleges may be fine with the equivalent of high school 3rd or even 2nd year.

The class I am taking this fall is one semester long, but I believe it is the equivalent to high school Mandarin 3 & 4

And this is why they have an additional information section on the application. I strongly suggest writing down there what exactly happened with mandarin. I think if you explain to them the story behind it, they will be more than understanding. And at least it’s not a major class like English or Math that is being such a problem.
