I am transfering to UVA this fall as a second year and I have not taken any foreign languages yet. I have taken the spanish placement test and was put at 201 level, which means to fullfill the comm school requirment of 4 semester of foreign language under my belt I only need to take 201 and 202. The problem I have is first, I am not confident in my spanish and taking it the semesters that matter the most for me to get into comm school seems like a bad idea. And second, I wanted to study abroad for those last two classes next summer. Will the comm school be okay with me getting those last two classes the summer after i apply???

You can technically take any class anytime. Seriously, yes you can take your Spanish over the summer.

Gubba, if you don't mind sharing, what level of spanish have you already completed (assuming you have some background because you were placed into 201)? Also, if you took the online placement test, what types of questions are on the exam (sentence completion, reading comprehension, etc...) I'm curious because I will be taking the online test myself and don't have any info about the format of the exam. Thanks, any info would be appreciated

yea I took four years of spanish in highschool it was the online test i did... I don't really remeber what all was on there... I'd say what you'd prolly expect, sentence completetion, reading comp, etc.

Oh and to the person who said I can take the class over the summer... the really dilemma I am having is whether or not com school will be okay with that.

Gubba, where are you transferring from, and are you going to be entering as a second year or applying as a second yr?

Sorry Gubba, let me rephrase that. It would be okay for you to take the classes over the summer. The Comm School would more likely be looking more into your "commerce-related" prerequisites than your foreign language requirements. They only suggest you take the foreign language courses in your 1st or 2nd year. Taking them in summer between 2nd and 3rd should be fine.

I am entering as a second year... I was in Penn State last year.... and thanks for the info, I'm going to contact someone from the com school to make sure but if it works out that way that would be great.
