Foreign Language Declaration?

Hi, I submitted my UC app last night and was thinking/looking through it today and realized that no where on the UC app does it ask if I have finished the foreign language requirement I need to get into some of the UCs I applied to. I am worried that this will automatically disqualify me for eligibility, even though I have already finished this prior to my time in college. I took a foreign examination that removed the need for me to complete this in college, and I have all the documents to prove it. What should i do? Is this a real concern? Please help me!!!

If you checked the IGETC box then you verified that you completed that requirement. You’ll be asked to submit IGETC certification later. Don’t sweat.

Okay, thank you. What about for the UCs that have courses that don’t follow IGETC? Like berkeley’s breadth requirement? Would it correspond as well?

IGETC is the same as Berkeley’s breadth (with the exception of a few classes in certain majors) however, the same categories are met, just by different classes. So don’t worry. As long as you have completed IGETC and as many Pre-req’s as possible you are in good shape and can worry about degree qualifications and needed classes upon admittance.

actually have a similar question.if I took AP Spanish Language and pass it with a 5,does that cover my foreign language requirement?scared now!!! :O

I have a foreign language question, too. :/

If I took two years of Japanese in high school but I got a D for the last semester, does that mean I did not satisfy the two years for IGETC and I will not get certified?

@UCplzKthx: If you did not take any other language courses beyond the first year of high school (first semester/quarter in college) then yes, you DID NOT satisfy the requirement! I suggest you take Japanese 2 at your CCC next quarter/semester. If that’s not a possibility, and you are on the quarter system, choose another language and take courses 1 and 2. Only the second course fulfills IGETC, but both will give you units. Just make sure you update the changes in your UC progress report.

well it depends on how your CC has decided what qualifies. My IGETC at my CC only had me take ONE year foreign language, so I took ASL 1 and I qualified for IGETC. So read up on what your school requires, you may not need to take 2 semesters worth.

Thanks for the answers.
I need ONE semester at CC or TWO years in HS, so I am going to go ahead and take one semester at CC and fix it.
