Foreign Language Options

I was looking at the critical languages center, and noticed certain languages were grayed out and cannot be clicked on. Are these not available?

Also, is there a credit limit for the first year? If I were to say, go with a more mainstream language like Spanish 101 (which is 4 hours instead of 3), and have a science course, could I take 17 hours my first semester?

If you are a National Merit, Crimson or Presidential Scholar, you can take up to 20 hours each semester. You would just need an override from the registrar’s office.

They are all available but some courses may not be offered with any regularity due to insufficient demand. The demand for Arabic is understandably going to be greater than the demand for Dutch.

The Critical Language page you pointed to, is for self taught courses -
(Think Rosetta Stone w/a language coach.)
I think greyed out means no language coach, but it looks like that changes frequently. Check here to see if there is a language trainer for any specific language. http://bama.ua.edu/~clc/about.html

The formal classroom languages are at [Modern Languages and Classics](http://bama.ua.edu/~mlc/)

Yeah, that’s a better way of saying it.
