Does anyone know the highest placement you can get with the online foreign language exam? Can you place out of Spanish 280? My daughter just got her score (912) which says it exempts her from 250. She is hoping for a 5 on the AP exam which would give her credit for 280. She has orientation this week and doesn't know what Spanish she should plan on taking first semester - 280 or something that comes after 280...

The special credit options are explained here: [Special Credit Option in Spanish : Academic Bulletin](<a href=“Indiana University”>Indiana University)

Credit is never given for 280 based upon the IUB test. She’ll get several credits if she does not take 280. After she takes 280 she’ll receive additional credits.

It does appear as one can get credit for 280 with a 5 on the AP test. If she later discovers she received a 5 on the AP exam, she can drop/add the appropriate class. For now, her adviser will suggest she sign up for 280.

How did you get your daughter’s score for the test? I’m not sure what mine was.

On onestart…student center…my academic and grades…view test scores…it should be listed there with AP credits and SAT/ACT scores

I think that, starting this year, IUB is no longer giving any automatic credits at all for testing into 200+ level Spanish class. rrah, they used to give four credits to everybody who tested into S200 or higher classes, but not now with the online test. I’m pretty sure your link applied to fall 2012 entering class but not fall 2013. Testing into S280 by itself isn’t worth any credits these days, but if you take S280 and get a C-, then they give you six credits total for S200 and S250. Used to be (last year, per rrah’s link) you could test into S280 or its previous equivalent, take it, and have 13 Spanish credits after taking only one class, but now you would get only 9 – and no free credits at all unless you placed into and took S250 or above.
