Foreign Language Placement Exams

What are these exams like? Any info you have, regardless of what language you took, would be really appreciated.

I bought a French review book...I'm hoping to test into level 4, but I'm not sure what exactly I should be studying. I'm a second year right now, and I took French for 3 years (8th-10th grade), but I don't remember much at all. I'm not good at learning languages, so its definitely not an enjoyable way to spend my break. That's why I'm hoping you guys can help me focus on the important stuff. Thanks!

Email Kimberly Jansma - she's the head of the French department at UCLA.

haha french placement test... i hated that thing. then again, i took it after a year without french, and with a nurse's protest loudly occurring outside covel (the testing place).

i remember that it was a LONG test (over 100 multiple choice scantron) involving less vocab than i'd hoped (i retained that) and more grammar than i wanted (which is the first thing you lose). review verb tenses (know which form of verb to plug into a sentence). also brush up on reading/listening comprehension, as those are both there. we had a selection from "petit nicolas", i forget the exact name. it was something i'd read in high school so i understood that perfectly!!!

basically, i aced the reading comp, did well on listening, but my grammar went down the toilet so i only placed into 3. i am thinking of teaching myself spanish and trying THAT placement test as i hear it's much easier ;)

take a few AP French tests, see how you do. it seems almost identical to the description above...

aside from the fact that there's no oral examination, i guess that'd be correct, but i never got to AP french so i don't know for certain.

couldn't hurt though... better to be over-prepared than under-prepared like me!
