I'm planning on taking the Chinese placement test, and I'm going the F2 orientation (June 20-21). There is a date to take the Chinese placement test at 1:30pm on June 20th to take the test, but I don't know if I will have any time (it's supposed to take like two hours..) to take that during orientation. Will I?

Also, if I am planning on taking Chinese, do I still need to take one of the online ones on the pre-orientation homework as well?

Do they even offer placement tests at orientation? I took my in-person one during welcome week. I don’t know if that helps or not… It was for French, not Chinese, so the protocol may be different. But I don’t think you’ll have enough time to take it during orientation, and you probably won’t want to, so you might as well take it during welcome week.

Also, you need to take a placement test so they can place you into the correct level of the foreign language you want to take—if you’re already almost fluent, there’s no point in putting you in Chinese I.

So I can just skip the online placement test and just wait until welcome week to take it? Or should I just take another language one, like…say, Spanish, just to finish all my pre-orientation HW and then also take Chinese during welcome week?

I don’t know. I took the french one online, and then again in person. The in person one I found to be remarkably easier. I don’t know if it’s possible to skip the online one. I suppose you probably could, but I’d ask someone at the school.
