I am a Sophomore currently taking MYP Japanese 1. My Japanese teacher doesn't think that I will be able to take the SL test after only three years. Any advice? I'm considering taking Spanish at community college, and switching languages.

Be motivated. Generally, students are not ready to take an IB Group 2 test after 3 years of study, but if you take the time to study outside if class, gain fluency and cultural understanding, practice a lot, then you will do fine.

If not, switch to ab initio.

Forgot how to have fun while doing the Gifted IB.

Well, as long as you work hard it should be fine. I’m taking a second language as HL and my grades are pretty okay. Make sure you get a tutor or again, work extra hard. Like Quixila mentioned, there’s ab initio but it’s a little too easy in my experience. SL is more impressive. If you’re struggling in Jap, don’t take Spanish first. Trying to juggle two new foreign languages is difficult trust me.Good luck!
