Foreign Language Question

I'm a rising senior and am have some difficulty! My school offers Spanish 1-4 and I started freshman year in Spanish 2 - meaning there is no Spanish 5 available for me for senior year. I was thinking about taking Spanish online this coming school year, but I don't know where to begin.

What should I be looking for? What kind of program would colleges consider credible? I really want four years of a foreign language and I need some advice on how to make that happen. Thank you!

Generally selective colleges are looking for you to complete 4 years of one foreign language. And you’ve done that. If your school offered more, then taking the more advanced courses that are possible (AP Spanish, AP Spanish Literature) could strengthen your application. But your school doesn’t provide you with such an option, and colleges would know that.

Completing the fourth level of the language courses, especially when it is the highest available level at your school, should be accepted at sensible universities. If you also score highly on SAT Subject and AP tests in the language, that can be even better.

You can see if there are more advanced Spanish courses available at a local community college (which should have placement guidelines so that you can take the most appropriate course). Or, if you hang out with native Spanish speaking classmates, talk to them in Spanish to improve your language skills. Or read Spanish language books in the library, web pages in Spanish (e.g. those of newspapers in Spain and Mexico), etc…

Thank you so much!
