Well, many schools want 3 credits in foreign language. In my case, I stopped after H Spanish 4 sophmore year becuase I wanted to persue other things and my school starts foreign language in middle school. Is the fact that I already took spanish 4, therefore have 4 credits enough, or do they want me to take 3 years of a language in high school?

If you took Spanish in 8th grade, your school may be showing that on your high school transcript. Sometimes if a student takes a language or Algebra 1 in middle school, it is rolled forward onto the HS transcript. I would first check with your high school registrar.

well on my transcript, it only says that I took spanish 3 and spanish 4. Would colleges then think that you did take a language in middle school and count those into your years of foreign language?

I would think so. If you would feel better about it, you could include a short note on your application. There are already attachments such as your activity-list/resume and essays. You could have a short note saying that you only have two years of a FL in hs since you took Spanish 1&2 in middle school and you could not take Spanish 5 due to a scheduling conflict.
